Jeremy Reed - Seattle Forgotten Centerfielder?

I know Jeremy Reed (Seattle) has had a rough start to his MLB career but I believe it is mainly because of injuries. He is only 25 years old and if you look at his minor league numbers they are outstanding. It was just last year at this time that there was talk of a few teams that were interested in acquiring him. He is the Brewers type of pickup, cheap contract and not eligible for free agency for about 3 or 4 more years. From everything I read about him his centerfield defense is outstanding (gold glove caliber), he has basestealing ability and could be a leadoff hitter. With Jose Guillen just being signed and Ichiro moving to center and talk about Gonzo being signed to play left (even if he isn't they still have Ibanez for left), they seem to have no room for Jeremy Reed. This may be a case of a player needing a change of scenery for him to reach his full potential. Is this just another player on the same level as Brady Clark, Laynce Nix or anyone else we currently have to play center or could this be a sleeper that some teams have forgotten about? Let me know what you all think.

I mentioned him in the Beltre thread. I like him, but I wouldn't give up a whole lot to get him. He seems more like a quality bench player to me, as opposed to an everyday CF.

I would give up a mid-level prospect to get him, assuming Clark, etc. can be dealt.

we discussed reed quite a lot early in the offseason, and the concensus seemed to be that while he was talented in the minors, we have a buncha young guys with potential who just havent put it together...so while most everyone would take him, i don't think anyone wanted to trade something useful for him or stick him in the lineup...

Speaking of forgotten center-fielders (well, almost), we really don't know what we have in Laynce Nix, either, who has some of the same qualitiies as Reed, although possibly not a s talented. I haven't seen any Seattle games, nor have I seen very much of Nix to judge either. But I agree, We don't really need Reed, we have one like him already on the roster....JMO!

Just a note,

Last year Boston tried to acquire Reed as he was their first choice to replace Damon and Seattle asked for a ton in return, which is why they gave up someone they really coveted in Marte (whom they traded Renteria for) to get Crisp.

Seattle hasn't forgotten about him. Not at their asking prices.
