Curtis Granderson maybe available this offseason?

tony2sweet
Word out of Detroit is With Curtis Granderson struggling this year he just may be on the trade block. Detoit may have some holes in the the middle of their infield do to free agency. What would you think of a Hardy for Granderson trade. Granderson maybe would fit the bill as our leadoff hitter and still has some gas in the tank, he's only in his late 20's. I know the talk will be Hardy for pitching but this may fill another hole that could happen this off-season should Cameron sign elsewhere. What do you think?

Is that the word out of Detroit? I had not heard these rumors at all. Acquiring Granderson would be a steal for the Brewers. he's one of the most dynamic players in baseball, as well as one of it's most charismatic and philanthropic. The benefits he would bring to the Milwaukee community alone would be worth his acquisition. Don't think Hardy would be enough, though, and I really don't see Granderson being available anyways.

There is speculation as of now.

15th September, 2009 - 4:05 pm
Detroit News - Curtis Granderson has struggled this season and the Tigers best move this offseason might be to trade the outfielder.

He is hitting .248 this season, just two years removed from being the second player in history to rack up at least 20 home runs, 20 triples, 30 doubles, and 20 stolen bases.

"I don't know, I'm not sure what it is," Granderson told the Detroit News. "My timing, for whatever reason, is off. And I think the same thing is happening against righties."

His value may be decreasing, but trading Granderson for help in the infield and bullpen could be a possible move this winter, according to Lynn Henning of the Detroit News.

He's got a Braun-like contract so I don't see the Tigers dealing him after a slightly off year. If he were put on the market, a lot of teams would get real interested real quick and he'd have enormous trade value.

As for the Brewers, they'd have to start not with Hardy, but with Prince. Now that would be worth discussing considering the Fielder legacy in Detroit.

Wait START with Prince? So in your opinion to get Curis Granderson we would have to trade Prince, +?

No, they'd probably take a straight up deal. The relative market value of a top flight CF in his prime albeit one coming off an off year under control over 4 years at a reasonable cost vs one of the games best run producing 1B under control for 2 years is pretty close. My point is Hardy and a bunch of prospects wouldn't come close to nabbing Granderson with all the other teams out there that would be bidding.

I think an offer w/ Gamel and Hardy might peak their interest, I definitely wouldn't trade Prince for him. I think I'd rather just re-sign Cameron, or sign Ankiel as a free agent and use Hardy and maybe Gamel to upgrade our pitching.

It's sounding like the idea of trading Fielder this off-season is basically a non-starter for Melvin and Attanasio, given recent comments.

I would definitely look at Granderson, but I would probably look to trading their excess of outfielders and hot corner guys for him, not Fielder.
