LaRussa and Duncan in Milwaukee?

bobskube

As many of you know, both are free agents to be. I have heard rumblings that St. Louis probably will resign these guys, but will they want to go back to St. Louis? St. Louis fans as a whole do not really care for LaRussa for whatever reason (Whitey Herzog and Ozzie Smith vendetta) and there are reasons to believe LaRussa and Duncan will flee. Inside sources agree that I talked to. Also, today on Mike and Mike, Gammons said St. Louis will probably still get these two but he specifically mentioned the Brewers as an option.

What do you think? I personally think these two are worth more than any single free agent this off-season.

Does that mean we would become the keepers of all which is right in baseball? lol.

This would definitely be an interesting move. I wouldn't put it past Mark A. to strongly consider this as something to better the team in the long term. Any staff LaRussa would put together is probably better than any staff Macha can put together.

I would literally roll out the red carpet and give a blank check to Tony LaRussa and / or Dave Duncan if they would agree to come to Milwaukee. LaRussa may irritate people with his pitching changes and old-school style. But he always wins and knows how to get more out of his talent than anyone. His teams are also well balanced and are usually fundamentally strong. His track record is outstanding, and he brings instant credibility.

This is a no-brainer. Pay these guys what they want and bring 'em to Brew Town.

The guys is a winner

Hi is a winner because he managed for good organizations. Macha was a "winner" before he came to Milwaukee. All this "winner" stuff is a function of the team, not the manager.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I wouldn't say he always had the best of talent in St. Louis. But they are always competitive.

LaRussa sure has a lot of solid players (Adam Kennedy the latest) that he's run out of town due to nothing but his inability to get along with people, and then do fine elsewhere. Considering he runs out of pitchers in the 10th often, I don't see any "strategery" that makes up for stupid personnel moves.

La Russa is always on a one year deal by his own choice and he has often said he won't manage without Duncan as his pitching coach. He likes to say if Duncan retires so will he and that may be where some of these rumors or hopes come from. Duncan was supposedly upset when they dumped his son, Chris, but given the Red Sox did shortly as well, maybe reality set in a bit. His other son, Shelley, is stuck at AAA for the Yankees with little hope of unseating Tex at first base.

I just don't see La Russa leaving STL unless it is for retirement.

The one year deal each year sort of flies in the face of those who say you can't have a manager on a one year deal. I wish teams wouldn't be in such a rush to extend guys like Macha or Yost and say they had to because you can't be a lame duck. It's not the players aren't going to try and hit or pitch because a manager is on his last year of a deal.

The thing is, I have to believe some of the Brewers players probably carry grudges against Tony LaRussa for past encounters. I wonder if he'd really be so eager to walk into the locker room and have to say to someone like Prince Fielder, "Hey, sorry about the bean ball wars in the past."
