Bobble Head Question

i think they should do a pitchers of mexico series and have yo, teddy higuera and juan nieves.

if cameron resigns i'd guess he might be a candidate and they'll probably do one for prince breaking the franchise rbi mark.

maybe a todd coffey and the limited edition version would be him with ultimate warrior facepaint?

I think Yo is a given, I was surprised they didn't do one for him this season.

Bush is a good possibility, he's been around for four seasons now, and has the only postseason win by a Brewers pitcher in the past 27 seasons, I'd say he deserves one.

McGehee is a decent choice with his breakout season.

I could see Coffey getting one, he's been great and his entrance has made him a fan favorite.

Cameron and Lopez are possibilities if either one are with the team next season.

I'd say Yo and Coffey, a classic guy (Cecil Cooper ever had one?). If they have an everyday CF, rather than a platoon, they'd be likely as well. Bush is not a bad bet either. Heck, Stetter maybe too, as one of the main criteria is that you won't be traded.

I'd like to see Gallardo, Counsell, Cameron (if back), Bush, Italian sausage, and then one other one. That other one wouldn't be a current player, at least not if they follow the pattern of previous years (4 players, 1 sausage, and one other bobble). That "other bobble" has been a nesting doll, Barrel Man, and Doug Melvin for the past 4 years.

The fact of the matter is ANY player is a "good draw." Fans will come out for a free bobble whether it's Prince Fielder or Ruben Quevedo, and I'm included in that lot. The game is a good time in itself, who can complain about a free gift?

That said, the Brewers have done bobbles (lots of them) of 82 players and stuff, but I would really like to see them incorporate at least one old school player a year. There's a ton of guys who've never had a bobble. Vina, Valentin, Burnitz, CIRILLO, Nieves, Higuera, Eldred, Vaughn, etc. None of them are exactly HOFers but they were bright spots in dark times that any hardcore fan would appreciate a bobblehead day for. I'd much rather get any of those bobbles than Jason Kendall or Jeff Suppan.

As far as next year, if they stick to the six bobble format, I'd bet on:

Prince Fielder HR Derby Champ

Gallardo

Italian Sausage

Mike Cameron - if he returns

Dave Bush

Mark Attanasio - seems like a natural progression after Melvin.

For an oldie but goodie, George Scott would be totally suitable for bobbleheaddom. (The link contains erroneous information about Scott's 1971 trade to Milwaukee, but it's a great article nonetheless.)

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I can't see them going past the '82 team, lots of fans don't know who they are. At the last game we attended, fans around me insisted Yount played CF in '82, Thomas went to RF, and spent much of the evening wondering who played SS (the consensus was Ernie Riles...really).

I agree with this, but Nieves was Puerto Rican

The 4 Mexican born pitchers have been Higuera, Gallardo, De La Rosa, and Acevedo

*edit*

Elmer Dessens makes 5

No, you had it right the first time, when you excluded Dessens from the "pitcher" category....

Juan Nieves is a good idea, but it might make sense to wait a couple years for the 25th anniversary of his no-hitter, since it will likely still be the only one in franchise history (then again, maybe Dave Bush will finally get one, since he's made the run a couple times).

George Scott is probably overdue for a bobble head, and I would bet a lot of older fans would get a kick out of seeing it. Prince Fielder "Home Run Derby Champ Edition" seems like a lock, assuming he's still with the team.

To be honest, I get the sense that most fans don't really care who the bobble head is of, just that it's being offered as a giveaway.

Indeed. Perhaps instead of describing a Craig Counsell bobblehead as a 'good draw,' I could have described it as one that might get fewer complaints on this board. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

You may be right. On the other hand I care. The only one I wanted this year was Braun. The other bobbles seemed weak. A GM bobble? Really? No thanks. Hoffman isn't really a Brewer in my eyes. Same with Suppan and Kendall. Besides, what have those players done for us except happen to be on the brewers at the right time. They were not exactly big contributors. I might have gone for the Bratwurst bobble, but I missed the rest of the collection except Chorizo cuz he's cool. Overall a pretty weak 2008 bobble lineup. I honestly would have rather had a Counsell bobble because he at least has a Wisconsin connection.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

considering Milwaukee is one of the few places in MLB that still emphasizes bobble head giveaways (Arizona does, too, but I've heard a lot of teams have brought it down to a trickle. Maybe I'm wrong?), I think fans should be glad they still have them.

I like a Seattle Pilots bobble. How about Jim Bouton? (okay, Harper is a better choice, but this one would be pretty funny)

I like a Henry Aaron bobble. Maybe some return to Milwaukee versions with retro Milwaukee Braves in a limited edition run.

I like a Prince bobble. C'mon, he's the top player on the team.

I like a Yovanni bobble. If he's the staff ace and hasn't had one, it's just common sense.

I like a Todd Coffey bobble if he returns. But make it bobble legs so it looks like he's running in from the bullpen or something.

I like an original Brewers bobble, if you want to go retro. Like the original bobble heads, made of ceramic with the baby face on them and the big belly gut. I still remember the one I had when I was a kid. I felt so bad when I knocked it off a shelf and half his face broke off. Glued it back together but the crack was always there mocking me.

I like a Teddy Higuera bobble.

I like the idea of a fan bobble vote. The D-Backs did that this year in the first half and the winner had a bobble made of them. So on Saturday, I get my voucher for an Augie Ojeda (yeah . . . I know. . . ) bobblehead. (The Ojeda bobbles are delayed in China due to the big typhoon, which prompted the D-Backs PR dept. to make up a "Where's Augie?" campaign, including pictures of the bobblehead photoshopped on the Great Wall, in Tienneman Square, etc.)

Aw, heck. Why don't the Brewers just guarantee 25 sellouts and do one for the entire roster. Heck, 40 sellouts and do the entire 40-man roster.

Spahn and Matthews bobbleheads could become valuable. They played they longest and best parts of their HOF careers here. Milwaukee shouldn't keep itself from honoring them beause the Braves left town.

We could do a series of Bush's almost-no-hitters, just like we always do a series commemorating our almost-World Series win. Bald Dave Bush, Handlebar Dave Bush, Neckbeard Dave Bush...the possibilities are endless.
