Macha and his players not on same page? (Latest: Macha to return with 2011 club option)

Ken Macha didn't put the worst starting rotation in the majors on the field this season. That was Doug Melvin. No manager is perfect. I don't have much of a problem with Macha. The fan in me wants to see Gamel play every day, but isn't the manager's job to do his best to win the game? McGehee is producing consistently (and Counsell for most of the season) and Gamel hasn't been lighting up AAA pitching as he was earlier this season. If this disconnect in this clubhouse is true I see no reason to keep him around, but I'm not buying that story yet.

I think Macha is one and done. Rightly or wrongly, it is a cheap window dressing type move that will help placate a good deal of the fanbase. Why bring back a lame duck next season? He's really shown me nothing this year, and actually reminds me a lot of Davey Lopes.

I think that there is a decent chance Melvin could be gone as well. Not sure who Attanasio could hire that would make a splash.

The point is that I don't think that anybody figured this team would struggle to get 75 wins this year. Based on Attanasio's history, heads are going to roll.

Actually, I did see a few outside predictions here right around that number...most were in the 80-86 range.

That said, I agree with your second sentence here as well, although I may not agree with the firings themselves.

Wait, WSSP was talking about how the Brewers should trade Braun? That is the funniest thing I have heard all day. Stuff like that is why I refuse to listen to WSSP anymore.

Well, that, and Sparky was talking about how Braun would "hold out" of Spring Training if Prince got a contract extension. That's pretty much why I've given up on WSSP.

I'd just like to throw this out there, and see if anyone else heard this interview. I was talking to my dad yesterday, and he said they had Peter Gammons on the radio. They were talking about the Brewers, and Gammons said Macha was as good as gone. They then asked him who he believed would replace Macha... and his answer floored both myself and my dad. He said he thought Tony LaRussa would replace Macha. LaRussa is apparently not getting along with the StL management, and Gammons sees this being his last year in StL. And he believes if Milwaukee offered him a job, he would gladly take it.

My initial reaction was "No way!! I have a better chance of winning the lottery than LaRussa coming to Milwaukee." But Gammons does have some nice sources. Did anyone else hear this interview? And would people be happy with LaRussa/Duncan coming to Milwaukee?

With left-hander Doug Davis on the mound for Arizona, manager Ken Macha said he absolutely had to play Escobar at short. Escobar was batting .262 in 21 games but was whacking left-handed pitching at a .615 clip (8 for 13).

"He hits lefties better," said Macha. "He did better against lefties (at Class AAA Nashville), too."

Well that explains why Macha didn't know about Gamel's splits against LHP in the minors. Oh, wait.....

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Minor League splits are tough to find. It's not like there's a website with that very name with splits handy or anything.

The Brewers are facing 4 straight left handed starters starting tonight against Arizona. Gamel better start 2 or more of those games. If Kenny wants to give McGehee more PT, start him at 2B. Even though I want Lopez to play.

Edit: Gamel not starting tonight 9/12/09. Macha=fail.

Like him or hate him, Yost at least seemed to understand the value of playing the kids when you are out of the playoff race.

I never thought I would say this but Macha is far worse than Yost. Macha is ill equipped to handle young players and the Brewers will always need young players to contribute in a big way.

I hate to say it, but it is true.

I think next season we give a chance to Randolph or Sveum. So long Kenny! We hardly knew ya! Maybe you can get your job back with NESN in Boston.

WSSP was going to be discussing that in the 4 PM hour today. Though with their discussion on good reasons to trade Ryan Braun earlier this afternoon, I'm not sure I can stomach them further today.
I hear ya on WSSP, Invader! Witrado from JSonline has used his appearances on that station to call Prince a bully in the locker room among other things. Bill Michaels blog was an interesting read and I've heard that Macha's lost the team from more and more sources. I think/hope he retires or is not brought back for 2010.

I'll say it, I'd like to see us hire Manny Acta. Yeah, he stunk it up with Washington, but that club was hopeless, it didn't matter who was managing them. He's a very open minded, stats-friendly manager. He's into sabremetrics, values OBP, doesn't like to bunt, values outs, etc. I think if he's given a decent team to work with, he'd be one of the top managers in baseball.

I'm as frustrated with Macha as anyone; but I am having a hard time stomaching the positive Ned Yost talk...everyone is entitled to their opinion; but can't we just leave it at they are both horrible? There are so many other people on earth that could be managing our team....do we have to compare these two? I'm partially kidding...
