2009-09-07 Cardinals (Carpenter) at Brewers (Bush) : 1:05 PM CT [Brewers lose, 3-0]

hawing

In case pretendastronaut is still on holiday. (If not, please do add your usual higher tech graphics.)

Carpenter v. Bush doesn't look all that favorable on paper...but as has been said many times, many ways on this forum before, they don't play games on paper.

Besides, the 2009 Brewers are 2-0 vs. STL when I am in attendance. So I'd better get to the park.

This lineup is a travesty.

CF Corey Patterson

LF Frank Catalanotto

2B Felipe Lopez

1B Prince Fielder

3B Casey McGehee

RF Jody Gerut

C Jason Kendall

SS Alcides Escobar

RHP Dave Bush

2B Skip Schumaker

CF Rick Ankiel

1B Albert Pujols

LF Matt Holliday

RF Ryan Ludwick

3B Troy Glaus

C Yadier Molina

SS Brendan Ryan

RHP Chris Carpenter

Patterson batting leadoff while Escobar hits 8th is a joke and is a good enough reason to have Macha fired immediately.

At least Escobar's starting instead of Hardy. But Felipe Lopez hitting third instead of Braun against the possible NL Cy Young winner probably isn't going to work out too well. Then again, we've been surprised by JV lineups before...this one, however, looks more like a Freshman squad lineup.

During the broadcast yesterday they said Cameron tweaked a muscle in his leg (hamstring, I think), so that is probably what is up with the back-to-back off days.

A hurting Dave Bush and a Yostian B-squad lineup. Sounds like a W to me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

So much for J-dy Gerut heating up... .167/.310/.208/.519 in his last ten games. The only way I could tolerate him being part of the 2010 Brewers is if he is making league minimum. Since that isn't possible, I hope he has no part in the 2010 Milwaukee Brewers. He is Gabe Gross without the "Gabe."

Couldn't really expect to do much against Carpenter with this lineup, and at least it's been a quick game. If this Cards team doesn't make the World Series, I'll be surprised, but anything can happen in a short series.

Edit: 99-pitch 1-hitter for Carpenter. To quote Ron Burgundy, "Heck, I'm not even mad -- that's amazing."

How dare the unclassy Brewers actually decide to play this game, instead of bowing down to the greatness of the Cardinals and Saint Pujols.
I think you meant to say "Saint Pujols and the Cardinals." Get the order right, young man.

I'm just wondering after which regular season game someone's going to hand Carpenter the Cy Young, A.P. the MVP and the team the WS trophy. I mean, why not?

Anyway. After yesterday's awesomefest, I had all but accepted that today's game would fall short. Carpenter about met my expectations (though he did mix some balls in with all those strikes), and Dave Bush exceeded them. I mean, I always hope for better - and I did have my Dave Bush player tee on - but I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd been rocked by that all star lineup.

I was dismayed not only to see Corey Patterson in the lineup (in any spot), but especially when Robb Edwards pronounced his first name the same way he does my Corey.

I know not everyone here feels as I do about Corey Hart, but I think we can all agree that an enthusiastic "COReeeeeeey Patterson!" sounds sick and wrong.

It was heartening to see every fan in our row (all Brewers fans) wear their caps in rally position during the Brewers' half of the 9th. Some kids are being raised right.
