Gallardo to be skipped; Colome released

If they don't get a few pitchers this winter none of the games in '10 will matter either.
I think you are exaggeration the reality of the situation with this comment. They at most will get 1 major league starter, the rest of the off season moves need to revolve around AAA depth. This teams rotation could easily have made the playoffs, look at the Rockies who had the same basic rotation as an example, don't be so darn results oriented.

Gallardo, Bush (if healthy) and Looper can fill spots in a 5-man rotation. The other two spots need to be replaced. At the very least, one of them needs to be replaced and Manny Parra needs to perform. If we go into next season with the same five guys, you can stick a fork in us before opening day.

The same 5 guys who had the team in first place on the 4th of July.

It wasn't the initial rotation that was the problem, it was the depth. When the 6th and 7th (and 8th, and 9th and 10th) starters didn't perform, that's when the bullpen became overworked and the staff started to fall apart.

The Brewers were in first place on July 4? What's your point? The season doesn't end on July 4th, and most people were very aware of the nosedive by that point. Everyone knows this team's 25-14 start was a fluke. We had Jeff Suppan, Dave Bush and Braden Looper pitching well above their ability. And they were in first place (barely) by being like 5 games above .500. I'm pretty sure they were the worst or second to worst first place team in MLB.

If anyone actually thinks the Brewers can make the playoffs with the same starting rotation they had this season ... I envy your naivety. Not a chance. So you're telling me it's a coincidence that almost everyone had concerns about this rotation before the season, and that happened to be the reason the team failed? If the rotation had been healthy there wouldn't have been problems? Not buying it. There wasn't and isn't enough talent on the pitching staff to get this team to the playoffs.

I agree with Snapper, to a point. I think Bush is serviceable enough, but Looper has shown he just isn't consistent enough to deserve to be back next year. Suppan proves everyone's worries correct by being awful this year. He should not be guaranteed a starting rotation spot next year. Parra is also looking to be very shaky, I think you can only count on him being perhaps a #5 starter at best, and if he does better, you take it as a pleasant surprise..

Throwing the same crap at the wall next season and hoping more of it sticks is not a good plan.

My point was that they were in first place before they had to start their 7th through 10th best starting pitchers, and before Dave Bush got hurt, and jumped his ERA nearly 2 full runs in 6 starts.

I don't remember one person before the season that Manny Parra would be one of the worst pitchers in baseball. Get the team through 6 or 7 innings, stay in the game, and hand the game over to the plethora of solid and not-overworked relievers. That was the plan.

The 5 pitchers were good enough to compete to win the division if they pitched up to expectations and stayed healthy. The problem is, none of them have. Gallardo has struggled to get through 6 innings in the majority of starts, Parra has been one of the worst pitchers in baseball, Suppan and Bush have both been horrid since their injuries showed up.

If you want to call me naive because all ten (I think that's where the number is at now) starters the Brewers have used have underperformed individually and as a result, burned out the once lights out bullpen, then I suppose I'm naive.

If you honestly thought the Brewers would have the 2nd worst ERA in the league, nearly a quarter run worse than 14th place Pittsburgh, then you're a better prognosticator than I am. Especially after they were middle of the pack at the end of May.
