Nice outing from Butler. A walk and 7 K's in 5 innings.

Brevard County postponed again.

Nashville's playoff hopes not looking good. Tied with New Orleans. Memphis is leading Oklahoma City 5-1 in the first game of their double header.

Wisconsin with an early 3-0 lead.

Nashville loses 6-5, Memphis wins game one of the double header. If Memphis wins game two, they clinch the division, but even if they lose, they have a two game lead with two to play.
Nashville holds the season tie-breaker....but it is not looking good.

I went to the Snappers/'Rattlers game tonight (19-8 Snappers), and I have to say, it is easily the most entertaining, and sloppily played games I've ever seen. There was absolutely just about a little bit of everything in this game.

Nice, with the Snappers being local, I had rooting interest for both teams.

did you happen to catch how hard Lasker was throwing?

I was sitting too far behind the guy with the gun. If I had to guess just based on what I saw with my eyes, I'd say he was maxing at 90 or so. He looked sharp the first 2 innings, then just got clobbered, and didn't get out of the third. There really was nothing redeeming to take out of this game. 8 wild pitches, multiple hit batters, just brutal play in the field, it was as ugly as ugly could be.

Nashville is officialy eliminated from playoff contention as Memphis wins the second game of their doubleheader. Now let's bring up Gamel, Heether, Salome, etc.

Yup.. it was a fun season. I missed only two games all year. One game to go to Atlanta to watch the Braves - Brewers series... and once because of a bad cold. I was a little shocked when Mat Gamel walked away with the 2009 Fan Vote for MVP at the final home game. He was gone for several months while with the Brewers and after his return did not set anything on fire. My vote was for the solid Adam Heether.

Final: Beloit (Twins) 19, Wisconsin 8

Wisconsin Site Game Summary

Beloit 19, Wisconsin 8

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers blew out the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 19-8 on Saturday night at Pohlman Field. Beloit scored in every inning except the first and eighth and had two different six-run innings. Rattlers pitchers walked 10 and threw four run-scoring wild pitches in the game as the Snappers racked up 16 hits. Ozzie Lewis led the onslaught with three this and five RBI. The loss was the fourth straight for the Rattlers.

Wisconsin (58-79 overall, 24-43 second half) broke on top with a three-run third inning against Daniel Berlind. Derrick McPhearson walked and Kyle Dhanani singled to start the frame. Michael Vass and Shawn Zarraga followed with consecutive RBI singles. Later in the inning, Brock Kjeldgaard drew a bases loaded walk with two outs to make the score 3-0. The Rattlers would leave the bases loaded in the inning.

Beloit (55-83, 28-40) scored one time in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double by Jon Waltenbury. Then, they dropped the hammer in the fourth.

Rattlers starting pitcher Maverick Lasker faced six batters in the third and did not retire any of them. All six would reach base and eventually score. The inning started with a walk and a single. Drew Thompson's double knocked in the first run of the inning. A walk loaded the bases. A grounder off the bat of Lewis was booted for an error and two runs scored to put the Snappers up 4-3. They weren't done.

Danny Rams knocked Lasker out of the game with an RBI single. Liam Ohlmann came on and got the first two outs of the inning, but gave up a two-run double to Reggie Williams and the Snappers were ahead 7-3.

Vass got the Rattlers a little closer with a solo homer in the top of the fourth. The home run was his seventh of the season.

Beloit kept going in the bottom of the fourth as they added four more runs. The first two came in on a two-run double by Lewis. The next two crossed the plate on two separate wild pitches by Ohlmann.

In the fifth, Nate Hanson singled in a run with two outs. In the sixth, Waltenbury launched a homer to right-center off Rigoberto Almonte and the Snappers went up 13-4.

Wisconsin rallied in the top of the seventh inning. John Delaney doubled to start the inning. One out later, Brandon Sizemore singled him home. Jose Duran was next and his triple plated Sizemore. Then, McPhearson singled to drive in Duran to make the score 13-7. But, Thom Wright got a 5-4-3 double play to get out of the frame.

Beloit really put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh. The first seven batters reached against two different Wisconsin relievers. Beloit scored their runs in the inning on an RBI double by Aaron Hicks off Almonte, a two-run double by Lewis of Corey Frerichs, a pair of wild pitches by Frerichs, and a bases loaded walk to Morales.

Pedro Lambetus came into the game and struck out the next two batters to end the seventh. The Rattlers reliever would allow a hit but no runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Snappers closer Billy Bullock struck out the first two Rattlers in the top of the ninth inning. Then, he hit three batters in a row and threw a wild pitch that allowed a run to score. A walk reloaded the bases. But, Bullock got the final out via another strikeout to finish off the 19-8 Beloit win.

The Timber Rattlers and the Snappers meet again on Sunday evening at Pohlman Field. Daniel Meadows (13-6, 3.92) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Bruce Pugh (3-5, 3.04) is set to go for Beloit. Game time is 5:00 PM.

Final: Jacksonville (Marlins) 2, Huntsville 0

Huntsville Site Game Summary

Suns Slow Down Stars, Again

Jacksonville Closer to Clinching Division Title

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Brad Stone spun five scoreless innings and teamed with five relievers on a six-hit shutout in Jacksonville's 2-0 victory over Huntsville Saturday night in the middle of the season-ending five-game at Joe Davis Stadium. The Suns improved to 45-23 and clinched at least a tie for the second half South Division title, while the Stars suffered a season-high seventh straight loss, all by one or two runs, to fall to 25-42 in the second half and 63-73 overall. The Suns lead the season series ten games to three and have won six of the eight in Huntsville.

The Suns strung together three straight singles to load the bases with one out in the first inning but could not score after Josh Butler struck out Scott Cousins and got Chris De La Cruz to ground out to squash the threat. Cousins' double, a walk and a hit batter filled the bases for the visitors with one out in the fourth but they came up empty again, as Chris Hatcher and Stone struck out to end the inning.

Butler departed after five frames, allowing four hits, walking one and punching out seven. He was followed to the hill by Mike McClendon, who retired the first four hitters he faced before Hatcher jumped on the first pitch he saw and clubbed his eighth home run of the season, and second at "the Joe," to break up a scoreless game and put the Suns in the lead. De La Cruz added a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded against Casey Baron in the eighth inning to give the Suns' a two-run cushion. McClendon suffered the loss to fall to 4-3 and gave up his first home run since July 5.

Stone gave up three hits, walked three and struck out a pair. He has now thrown 11 innings in two turns against the Stars without allowing an earned run. Levale Speigner, who grabbed the win to go to 3-1, tossed a shutout sixth inning and was followed in the seventh by Dan Jennings, who gave up a leadoff double to J.R. Hopf and was removed in favor of Garrett Parcell. The right-hander stranded Hopf, who advanced on a ground out, at third base with one out after getting pinch-hitter Drew Anderson to foul out and Freddy Parejo to pop out.

Kasey Olenberger worked a scoreless eighth inning for the visitors and gave way to Matt Peterson, who worked a perfect ninth inning to nail down his third save of the series and Southern League record-tying 36th of the season. The Stars have been blanked in three of their last four games and have scored four runs over the last six contests. Huntsville has scored one run on 13 hits in the three games against the Suns, who have received 8 1/3 scoreless innings from their bullpen in the series.

The series continues Sunday afternoon with Huntsville sending right-hander Mark Holliman to the hill against Suns' right-hander Jarrett Santos. Coverage of the game begins at 12:45 PM central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

Truly a broken record of offensive futility; Josh Butler's ability to work out of jams encouraging...

Brewers spoil fan night in Billings

By MIKE SCHERTING Billings Gazette

BILLINGS - It was Fan Appreciation Night at Dehler Park, but the Billings Mustangs couldn't give the 2,878 on hand a good going away present.

Instead, the Mustangs took a 3-0 loss from the Helena Brewers on Saturday night, the final home game of the Pioneer League season for Billings.

One night after sweeping the Brewers with dramatic walk-off home runs to end both games of a doubleheader, the Mustangs were shut out for the third time this season on seven hits.

The loss dropped the Mustangs to 16-22 at Dehler Park, and 9-10 in the second half, though many in attendance didn't seem to care about the losing record. After Mark Fleury grounded out to end the game, many of the fans in the third-base side of the seats beyond the home team's dugout applauded and stood as the Mustangs made their walk to the clubhouse.

Several of the players remained on the concourse for as long as 15 minutes or more following the game, autographing anything handed to them.

"It's nice seeing the kids come out," said Mustangs third baseman Frank Pfister, who had one of the longest autograph sessions among the players. "It wasn't too long ago I was doing the same kind of thing at baseball games. It's definitely been an honor to be able to play here."

Luca Panerati made his last start for the Mustangs and allowed three earned runs in six innings. The Brewers collected six hits off Panerati (3-7), the big blow being a two-run home run by Joey Paciorek that gave Helena a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Cutter Dykstra's sacrifice fly in the third scored Helena's first run.

"I think overall I pitched pretty good," said Panerati, who allowed six hits, struck out six and walked none. "So there's nothing to regret. Both teams played a good game."

Helena starter Del Howell and reliever Donald Brandt (2-0) both allowed three hits in four innings, and Robert Currie threw the ninth to earn his second save. Howell struck out five and walked none, while Brandt had seven strikeouts to one walk.

"That's the first time we've seen (Howell) and he did a good job," Mustangs manager Julio Garcia said. "It would have been fun to keep it going from (Friday night), but that's the way it goes."

Helena Box Score

LHP Del Howell unscored upon in three pro appearances -- nice Helena debut; another lefty, non-drafted Donald Brandt, has a 32-to-5 K-to-BB ratio in 24.2 innings; first baseman Sean Halton doubled twice as part of a perfect day at the plate, on all four times...

From Kyle Smith, Manatees GM:

Manatees Fans,

We've got good news and bad news:

Bad News: Tonight's games vs. Tampa has been postponed due to wet field conditions. We will be taking on the Yanks Sunday for a double-header scheduled to begin at 1:05 PM (12:05 Central).

Good News: During tonight's rainfall, Florida State League President Chuck Murphy announced to the fans that Brevard County will be playing host to the 2010 Florida State League All-Star Game. The Manatees last hosted the FSL ASG in 2008. This will be the third time the FSL ASG will be played at Space Coast Stadium.

***

So both Huntsville and Brevard will be hosting All-Star Games in 2010.

Final: New Orleans (Marlins) 6, Nashville 5

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Sounds Fall Again To Zephyrs, 6-5

METAIRIE, La. - The Nashville Sounds suffered a 6-5 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday evening at Zephyr Field and were eliminated from postseason contention later in the evening when the division-rival Memphis Redbirds swept a doubleheader.

With its fourth defeat in the last five contests, Nashville (73-69) dropped to three games behind first-place Memphis in the PCL American Conference Northern Division with only two games remaining for each club. The Redbirds took a pair of seven-inning contests from the Oklahoma City RedHawks to lock up the division crown.

Outfielder Corey Hart made his second rehab appearance for Nashville. He was hit in the shoulder by a pitch in the second inning then struck out swinging in his second plate appearance in the fourth. He played five-plus innings in right field before being removed as part of a double-switch in the bottom of the sixth inning.

First baseman Joe Koshansky put the visitors on top by a 1-0 count when he led off the second inning with an opposite-field solo homer to left off Z's starter Brian Lawrence, the slugger's team-leading 23rd roundtripper of the year.

Hart scored the club's second run of the inning when he was hit by a Lawrence pitch and later scored on Brendan Katin's double play groundout.

The Zephyrs rallied to tie the contest in the bottom of the frame. New Orleans first baseman Gaby Sanchez halved the Sounds' lead with a leadoff solo homer to left off Sounds starter Mike Jones, the infielder's 16th longball of the season. After Alejandro De Aza singled, Gookie Dawkins blooped a single to shallow left, where Katin came up firing to third and airmailed the bag to allow the tying run to come home.

Sounds second baseman Hernan Iribarren stifled the Z's attempt to take the lead later in the second when he gunned down Dawkins at the dish as he attempted to score from third on an Emilio Ontiveros grounder.

Sanchez gave New Orleans a 3-2 lead in the third with a sacrifice fly to the wall in right-center that plated David Matranga, who had singled off Jones earlier in the frame.

Nashville tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the fifth when Jones helped his own cause by reaching on a one-out single to center then scored on Tike Redman's RBI single to right.

New Orleans pulled back in front in the home half of the fifth, rallying for three two-out runs against Jones to take a 6-3 advantage. De Aza drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to force home John Raynor from third with the go-ahead run. Dawkins followed with a routine grounder to short which was misplayed by Adam Heether to allow two unearned runs to come plateward.

The Zephyrs' defense gave a run back to the Sounds in the top of the seventh when Dawkins muffed a throw while covering second base on a Redman fielder's choice grounder, allowing Patrick Arlis to score to make it a 6-4 contest.

Katin wrapped up the evening's scoring in the top of the ninth when he led off with his first home run in 134 at-bats, a solo shot to dead center off Z's reliever Matt DeSalvo. The tater, which pulled Nashville within a run at 6-5, was Katin's 21st of the season but just his second since the All-Star break.

DeSalvo recovered to retire the next three batters in order to preserve the victory and lock down his fourth save of the year.

Lawrence (7-4) earned the victory for New Orleans with a quality start, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five batters in his six innings of work.

Jones (1-2) took the loss for Nashville after giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits in his 5 2/3 innings of work.

The teams continue the series with another 6 p.m. CT meeting on Sunday evening. Left-hander Lindsay Gulin (6-10, 5.00) will man the bump for the Sounds to face New Orleans right-hander Chris Volstad (NR), who will make his first Triple-A appearance after spending all season with the Florida Marlins.

Nashville Box Score

Mat Gamel the only Sound to reach base twice; 13 baserunners allowed by Mike Jones in his 5.2 innings...
