Tigers among others interested in Cameron

According to MLB Trade Rumors

I was kinda hoping to see Cam back for another year next season, as I think he's a great veteran leader, but with the heating-up (OK, relatively speaking) of Gerut with more playing time and even Bourgeois, not to mention the FA market I'm inclined to think "Why not?" if there's a halfway decent deal.

A team would have to complete a deal for him today in order for him to be eligible for the post-season, right?

(Yeah, the article on MLB Trade Rumors confirms that). The Brewers do have options for next year...obviously Gerut, but Jason Bourgeois, and Corey Patterson (yeah, I know, I know...). Maybe Weeks could be a possibility too if the team retains Lopez and wants to get experimental, and then you have Lorenzo Cain as a further possibility down the line.

I like Cameron, and I think he's a solid contributor but at the dish and with the glove. But I wouldn't be unhappy if he got dealt, if it garnered a solid return.

At least we won't have to wait too long to see if this is going to work out -- it's going to be tonight or nothing, it looks like...

TH says the Brewers are unlikely to offer arbitration. I don't understand why that is. I'll be ticked off if the return they get is less than the value of Type A compensation, especially since I'd be happy to see Cameron back next year.

They paid Cameron plenty this year and they aren't winning. He's a decent player and was above average this year stat wise but he's not a difference maker for this team as it's presently constituted. Next year he'll be 37, so a decline is quite possible. He'd get a lot in arbitration because it rewards history and doesn't project forward. I think the Brewers want him back but at their price so they can focus their resources on the real need, pitching.

Eh, the fact that Cameron is only a type B is reason number 134430 why the free agent ranking system is flawed. I'd still like to see Cameron in center next year, so I'm glad nothing happened.

The Cards paid Pujols a bunch of money last year and they didn't win. Not sure what that proves.

He is making $10M this year. Wouldn't he get a raise in arbitration with his abover average play? If so, I don't think he would be worth that much in 2010, which is why I wouldn't offer arbitration, as he would probably accept (unless the Yankees tell him through channels that they are going to go more for a single year or go multiple years in free agency).

I really do not see Cameron costing even 10 million next year. Cameron will be 37 next year, the market this off-season really was quite bad for all players, but especially older players. Abreu who has about a 400 OBP every year got 5 million, and Edmonds could not even find a deal to his liking. I do not see Cameron getting more than 7 million guaranteed, with incentives that could run the contract upwards of 10 million.

Personally I cant see any pitcher worth as many games as Cameron playing for anything near 7 million on a one year deal.

of course i like Cameron, but i can understand that the Brewers might want to drop his salary to help sign a starter. although i don't understand why the Brewers still wouldn't offer him arbitration. if he accepts, then couldn't we still trade him? that shouldn't be too challenging of a task considering the need for and lack of CF FAs out there.
