Denver to-do

colbyjack

I'm taking my family to Denver at the end of September, and yes, a trip to Coors Field to check out the Rockies vs. the Brewers has already been arranged.

Any other suggestions? I have a 3-year old and a 4-month old, so I have trips to the zoo and science museum planned. I also am taking a day to head up to Fort Collins to check out the microbreweries there (again). The nights are mostly planned as I have some random family in the area.

I was there last September and we visited Red Rocks and the Aquarium. We might do a trip to the mountains, but our 3-year old might be bored out of his mind by that. Any suggestions for sites to see or places to eat are greatly appreciated. We're staying by the old airport in the SE quadrant of the city (by Englewood).

Thanks in advance!

be sure to sit in the bleacher seats at Coors Field. for a night game, you get the sunset over the mountains to your right and the city skyline to your right--a beautiful ballpark view.

i used to live there, but i was broke, so i didn't travel much. The Coors Brewery tour in Golden is fine, and if you go for the "quick tour," that basically skips all the stuff you've seen before in Milwaukee and leads you right to the tasting room.

Which right is that, again? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

My wife and I have been to Denver a couple of times. Good to hear that you're planning on going to the zoo. It's a very nice zoo and easy to get to/get around.

Your son will likely be bored going up to the mountains, but the trip to Estes Park is worth it. Go up to Loveland and take the road into Estes Park from there. You drive right through the Big Thompson Canyon, which is very scenic. There are kids things to do in Estes Park (go-carts, etc.) but it's mostly a tourist/vacationer area for adults, although I've seen many families up there during the five times we've been there (we honeymooned there.) Don't be surprised if there is snow on the ground in late September. But you'll likely see a bunch of elk and other animals.

i forgot most of the information about it, sorry, but it's one thing you and your son might really enjoy. there's a drag racing track maybe 30 minutes outside Denver that holds regular races. it's not really a sport i'm into, but it was a lot of fun when i went, and i think something a three-year-old would get a big kick out of.

Not sure what you are up for, but a walk down the Pearl St. Mall in Boulder is always a favorite (only about 25 minutes from downtown to downtown) I will also echo the thoughts that Rocky Mountain National Park is worth the hour and a half or so from Denver. We get the annual pass every year and can't come close to seeing everything. Trail Ridge Rd. in the park is awesome. Timing it late in September could also result in seeing some Big Horn Sheep (State Animal).

To be completely honest though, even the Front Range foothills are going to be awesome to see if you are not used to seeing mountains. Most of the snow has left the peaks anyhow, but there's a chance you'll catch some at the end of September.

Cherry Creek is good family fun, mall with some restaurants, couple good bars, that sort of thing.

Also, not sure what days you are going to be in before/after the series but if you time it right the Great American Beer Festival is the 24-26.
