Link Report for Fri. 8/28 -- Rogers Continues to Impress

Mass Haas
Rogers is like a god to me. For him to be this successful this year after completely missing the last 2 years is awesome. In my mind he has fully regained is uber-prospect status. He should still stay in the minors the entire year next year, hopefully he is ready to go 150-175 innings for the Crew in 2011.

Now if only Braddock could get turned back into a start next year..... There are going to be a ton os SP prospects in Huntsville next year so I would think he'll stay a reliever in Hunstville are be given a shot at starting in AAA. I guess it all depends on his health in ST next year.

Reality check. They are likely going to need Rogers in Milwaukee next year at some point (likely after they pull the plug on Suppan in July sometime) to save Melvin's job. That's why what he does the rest of this year and in the AFL is more important than virtually anything going on anywhere in the system right now including the big league club. They need him building arm strength now to prepare him to go 150 innings in 2010. They should start him slow next spring. Hold him in Arizona an extra month, then send him to AAA around May 1st when he's ready to go 5-6 innings every 5th day. He should bypass AA. The AFL experience should be his AA level. He's dominating high A hitters (albeit in limited action) many of whom he'd see in AA next year. He doesn't need to prove he can get those guys out.

So you think they're going to take a guy who missed two years because of injuries and work him to 150 innings after pitching roughly 80 when this season is over to save the GM's job? I really doubt that.

He does need to prove that he can stay healthy though. After all this time of being patient with him, why rush him next year? I'd start him in AA, let him continue regaining his confidence. If he's successful there move him to Nashville at the all star break. With Jones, Butler, and Cody, plus whoever Melvin obtains in off season trades, I don't think depth will be as much of a problem next year as it was this year. Personally, I think Zach Braddock is the one who should be fast tracked a little more next year.
