This must have been a pretty wild play:

Freddy Parejo singles on a ground ball to right fielder Cody Strait. Jonathan Lucroy scores. Taylor Green scores. Shane Justis scores. Freddy Parejo scores. Missed catch error by right fielder Cody Strait. Throwing error by right fielder Cody Strait.

Man, the Wisconsin offense is just abysmal. Look at the OPS of the starting position players in today's game.

Prince - .630

Brownstein - .602

Kjeldgaard - .789

Dhanani - .529

Alfonso - .429

Vass - .677

Delaney - .656

Miller - .625

McPhearson - .417

I know the Midwest League is a pitcher's league, but that's just ridiculous.

Well McPhearson clearly didn't belong in WI, I have no idea what they set him up to fail, and yes I'm going to hate on it every chance I get.

Final: Huntsville 9, Montgomery (Rays) 7

Huntsville Site Game Summary

Wild Seventh Sends Stars Past Biscuits

Huntsville Ends Homestand With Comeback Victory

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Freddy Parejo's two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in the midst of a seven-run rally that sent Huntsville to a 9-7 win over Montgomery Wednesday night in the last of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars won the last three games to ensure a winning homestand and improve to 24-35 in the second half, while the Biscuits leave town at 27-32 in the second half and 60-69 overall. The Biscuits took the season series six games to four, with all six wins in succession after losing the first game.

Biscuits' starter Brian Baker started on the mound in the fateful frame and gave up a single to Brett Lawrie and walked Chuck Caufield and was taken out of the game with a 6-2 lead and replaced by Mike Wlodarczyk. The southpaw hit Drew Anderson to load the bases and gave up a two-run single to Jonathan Lucroy, the Stars' first hit with the bases filled in the series in 13 tries, that cut the lead to 6-4. Huntsville reloaded the bases and pinch-hitter Shane Justis walked to trim the lead to 6-5. Yohannis Perez struck out against Matt Gorgen and was followed by Parejo, who sliced a ground ball one-hopper past first baseman Fernando Cortez into right field to plate Lucroy and Taylor Green to give Huntsville its first lead since the first inning at 7-6. Right fielder Cody Strait overran the ball, allowing Justis and Parejo to advance a base and both then scored when Strait's throw to second base skipped all the way into the bullpen in foul territory in left field. The Stars used only three hits to put together their biggest scoring inning of the season, as they finished off their sixth win in 10 games on the home stand.

Bobby Bramhall earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Rob Wooten cashed in his tenth save in as many chances despite giving up a run in the ninth. Wlodarczyk took the loss to drop to 0-4 after allowing four runs, three earned, while retiring just one batter. Baker was charged with four runs, three earned, on seven hits over six-plus innings.

Cortez doubled in Rashad Eldridge to give the Biscuits a 2-1 lead in the third and scored when Chris Nowak followed with a single to right field. Strait started the fourth inning with a double and came around to score on a one-out single by Jason Bowers that pushed the visitors lead to 4-1. Stars' starter Mark Holliman was lifted after four frames after yielding four runs, three earned, on six hits, while walking one and striking out four. He has not won since July 1, a stretch of nine straight starts.

Green's fly ball in the bottom of the fourth scored Anderson to trim the Biscuits' lead to 4-2 but the Stars left the bases loaded later in the frame when Parejo fouled out. Josh Wahpepah threw two scoreless innings behind Holliman before Cortez singled home a run and a passed ball on Lucroy allowed another to score in the seventh to extend the visitors lead to 6-2.

The Stars begin a five-game series against Birmingham Friday night with right-hander Nick Green making the start against Barons' right-hander Johnny Lowe. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 PM central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

Well, that was interesting, huh? Closer Rob Wooten has allowed a run or more in six of his last nine appearances, yet still hasn't blown a AA save -- here's to not having to protect one-run leads; folks forget just how top-heavy Jack Z. went with pitchers in 2004 -- (Mark Rogers first, then Yovani Gallardo, Josh Wahpepah, and finally Rice's Josh Baker before Angel Salome was chosen in the 5th round) -- Wahpepah turned 25 last month and is fighting to be more than a AA middle reliever; Brett Lawrie still raking and is error-free after nine games at second base for the Stars; watch out, Lorenzo Cain (0-for-4), you're about to be bypassed for the top spot in the center field pecking order by a young stud at Brevard -- details shortly...

I just wanted to add that prior to tonight's action, Lasker has just 8 BBs against 36 Ks in 43 IP. Not only does he have great name, but the young man can pitch. Hopefully he's added a tic or 2 to his fastball since HS.

Final: Brevard County 14, Clearwater (Phillies) 3

Brevard County Site Game Summary

Schafer Slams Threshers

By Tyler Stover / Brevard County Manatees

(Viera, FL) The Brevard County Manatees pounded the Clearwater Threshers Wednesday night, 14-3. The Manatees are now 9-5 against the Threshers this season. The 14-run explosion was the largest scoring output of the season for Brevard County.

Logan Schafer led the way for the Manatee offense, blasting a fifth-inning grand slam (6) over the palm trees in right field to put the game out of reach. The grand slam capped off an eight-run inning for Brevard County. It was part of a huge night for Schafer, in which he went 4-5, scoring three runs and driving in five more. Schafer fell a triple shy of the cycle, but raised his FSL-leading batting average to .312. Eric Farris, Martin Maldonado, Caleb Gindl, and Zelous Wheeler each chipped in with two hits, and Chris Errecart launched his eighth home run of the season.

Michael Bowman (5-4) earned the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings. Drew Naylor (8-11) was rocked for eight runs on 11 hits, taking the loss. Brandon Rapoza and Rafael Lluberes combined for three scoreless innings of relief to finish off the victory.

The teams wrap up the series Thursday night. Evan Anundsen (9-8, 2.87 ERA) takes the hill for Brevard County, taking on Clearwater's Darren Byrd (5-5, 3.91). The game also features the Brevard County Manatees baseball card giveaway to the first 750 fans, along with the No Limits Academy fundraiser. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

Brevard County Box Score

CF Logan Schafer also doubled a baserunner off of first base; Brent Brewer walked twice and scored twice, but also committed his 30th error of the season; with the Brewers keeping the Manatee roster intact since the All-Star break, they are primed to do some damage in the playoffs -- watch out for the Tampa Yankees, 41-14 in the second half...

If Javier is any kind of prospect he needs to get bumped past rookie ball next season, he's already 21.

Final: Burlington (Royals) 2, Wisconsin 1

Walk-off loss...

Wisconsin Site Game Summary

Rattlers err; Bees win

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

BURLINGTON, IA - A pitchers duel ended on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth and the Burlington Bees beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-1 Wednesday night at Community Field. Trey Watten gave up one run over seven innings as the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Manauris Baez allowed one run over six innings as the starter for the Bees. At the end of the night, Wisconsin gave a red-hot Burlington team one too many chances.

The Bees (59-70 overall, 30-29 second half) scored first. A two-out single by Patrick Norris in the bottom of the third inning drove in Ryan Wood from second base and Burlington led 1-0.

Wisconsin (57-72, 23-36) got to Baez in the top of the sixth inning. Kyle Dhanani singled with one out. He was running on the first pitch to Derrick Alfonso and the Rattlers catcher lined the ball into the gap in left-center for an RBI double as Dhanani raced home with the tying run.

Neither starter blinked again. Watten allowed three hits and struck out four over seven innings. Baez struck out seven and scattered six hits over six innings.

Nick Tyson, who replaced Watten to start the bottom of the eighth, retired the first five batters he faced. It looked like he would work a 1-2-3 ninth, but with two outs, a foul pop off the bat of David Wood dropped just out of the reach of third baseman Jose Duran. Wood took advantage of his second chance and doubled into the right field corner.

Jason Taylor was next and he sent a ground ball to third. The throw to first was low and the scoop could not be made. Wood raced home with the winning run as the ball rolled on the infield dirt behind first base. The Bees have won six straight games.

Wisconsin wraps up their season series with the Bees on Thursday night at Community Field. Daniel Meadows (13-6, 4.03) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Ivor Hodgson (3-1, 4.50) is set to go for Burlington. Game time is 6:30 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

How's Jose Duran's week going defensively, you ask? Not good. Nice job, Trey Watten, also had two pickoffs;

From the post above, I've added draft round --

Man, the Wisconsin offense is just abysmal. Look at the OPS of the starting position players in today's game.

Prince - .630 (3rd round)

Brownstein - .602 (14th)

Kjeldgaard - .789 (34th, as a pitcher)

Dhanani - .529 (43rd)

Alfonso - .429 (26th)

Vass - .677 (35th)

Delaney - .656 (25th)

Miller - .625 (17th)

McPhearson - .417 (undrafted)

I know the Midwest League is a pitcher's league, but that's just ridiculous.

***

Jose Duran (6th round) contributed to the loss tonight and can't get his OPS over .600. It looks like the next "wave" is surely coming from Brevard, but it's unusual for such a large perceived gap in the system to have already developed at low-A.

Series Opener In Texas Suspended Due To Rain

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Nashville Sounds and Round Rock Express had their opener of a five-game series suspended by rain in the bottom of the fourth inning on Wednesday evening at The Dell Diamond.

At the time of stoppage, the Sounds trailed Round Rock by a 5-1 count.

The contest will be completed to its nine-inning conclusion on Thursday evening beginning at 5:30 PM. The Sounds and Express will follow that with their regularly scheduled Thursday contest, which will be reduced to seven innings.

The Express jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage with a pair of first-inning runs against Sounds starter Sam Narron. Reggie Abercrombie opened the frame with a double and scored the game's first run two batters later on Tommy Manzella's two-bagger. Matt Kata added a two-out RBI single later in the inning.

Round Rock increased the lead to 5-0 in the second with a three-run outburst, two scoring unearned following a missed catch error by Sounds second baseman Hernan Iribarren. Chris Johnson drilled a two-run, bases-loaded double to left off Narron before Kata lifted a sacrifice fly to center.

Nashville got a run back in the top of the third inning against Round Rock starter Andy Van Hekken. Iribarren legged out a leadoff triple then trotted home on Patrick Arlis' sacrifice fly to right. Van Hekken escaped further damage by working out of a bases-loaded jam later in the frame, retiring Adam Heether on an inning-ending popup.

The game was halted with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Round Rock had a runner on first and Kata was at the plate with a 1-1 count against Narron.

In Thursday's second contest, left-hander Lindsay Gulin (6-8, 4.61) will man the bump for Nashville to face Round Rock southpaw Mark McLemore (4-10, 4.80).

Nashville Pre-Game Audio Chat with Starting Pitcher Mike Jones

As good a listen as you think it would be -- it sure will be interesting to see if Mike will be spending a 10th year in the system, 40-man roster spot or not -- even if he agrees to another minor league deal, he'd then be eligible to be plucked in Rule 5...

Final: Arizona Angels 8, Arizona Brewers 6

Arizona Box Score

Angels score three in the 7th to break a 5-5 tie; RHP Ryan DeLaughter, the former Nationals farmhand who was drafted as an outfielder in '05 and was a two-way prospect then, continues to get one-inning starts, perhaps rehabbing in some way; LHP Casey Baron continues his rehab; RHP Maverick Lasker (5-1) with his first pro loss; the top four in the order -- SS Carlos George, RF Demetrius McKelvie, 3B Wayne Dedrick, and Brandon Sizemore, back at second base for this one, combined to reach base 12 times...

Defense hurts another farm team -- epidemic as of late in the system...

By Dan Douts / Helena Brewers
HELENA, MT-- Mark Fleury hit two two-run home runs for Billings as the Brewers dropped the second game of the series 6-5 on Wednesday night.

Adrian Rosario gave up six runs, three earned, in 5.2 innings pitched to record his seventh loss of the season. Luca Panerati gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings to earn the victory for Billings.

Scott Krieger went 3-for-4 and drove in a run to lead the Brewers offense. Chad Stang, Sean Halton and Cutter Dykstra all added two hits for Helena.
