Although I am not a fan of his, I will grant you that incompetent may be a little strong for Macha (not neccessarily for Dusty). However, they mentioned during the broadcast that Coffey had never pitched more than 2 innings in his ML career (I haven't verified that). He also looked gassed. Plus, we had 4 other pitchers in the pen left (granted, many had been used over the last several days), while they were moving Owings the Wednesday starter down there. It seemed in a war of attrition we had the upper hand. Yet Macha chose to go with a gassed Coffey against their best hitter. Incompetent may be too strong and I apologize, but I still didn't like the move.

Great effort by the guys last night though. Great to see them battle like that. Mike Cameron's catch and slide into third were awesome...I love that guy.

Also great to see all the bf.netters up late watching some baseball last night...great effort by the fans!

Say Macha had brought in Vargas to pitch the 13th and he gives up a run or two. How many posts would there be complaining about Macha not letting Coffey go out there and pitch another inning.

Not very many -- The consensus I saw was that Coffey was out of gas.

Oh, I think there would have been some complaining posts; they would simply have been accompanied by others adding, "though, Coffey was out of gas.." When you get that deep into a game, the options tend not to improve.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

The effort put forth in the chat room tonight was just stellar. Group hug! And kudos to (I think) stalton for asking if we were going to do rally caps down 1-6 in the 9th.
Yea, that was me. I guess I was used to all the times we were down, you always started the rally caps. Maybe I'm the one that should call for them, heh. Good effort by the Brew Crew last night. One thing I have to say is that the Brewers (usually) don't roll over and lose. They keep fighting. That goes a long way for a ball club.

Yeah, I had so much fun last night in the chat and in that 9th inning I almost thought the Brewers won when I woke up this morning.

Has there been any word about Stetter's health? Because I'm hardly anti-Macha but Coffey coming out for a third like that if Stetter was available was confounding.

Macha overall is probably not "incompetent' (though I won't praise him much), but that decision was incompetent imo.

Though obsessedwithbrewcrew is right in #80 -- every manager makes stupid decisions, at least from time to time.
