Lame Nix, play good defense elsewhere.

edit. Though I should that was quite the risk, he was in awfully shallow RF, if that gets past him the game is over.

Is there a worse third base coach than Brad Fischer? I don't think so.
His judgment has been very questionable many times this season, with few being as blatant as tonight. The play at the plate wasn't even close.

I have been on the board with trying to not blame Macha for this teams bad playing the last couple of months.... but how obvious was it to take Coffey out after the 12th? I know we have three pitchers that pitched yesterday in the pen, but Vargas is a former starter so he would most likely be more effective than Coffey? Ugh, just when you think they may be turning something around

Well...I appreciate the effort, even if it will result in sleep deprivation for me tomorrow.

The effort put forth in the chat room tonight was just stellar. Group hug! And kudos to (I think) stalton for asking if we were going to do rally caps down 1-6 in the 9th.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Say Macha had brought in Vargas to pitch the 13th and he gives up a run or two. How many posts would there be complaining about Macha not letting Coffey go out there and pitch another inning. After all, he looked great for the 11th and the 12th and his pitch count wasn't too high. My guess is that if that would have happened, we would see the same types of posts calling Macha "incompetent" or saying that we got "Macha'd"

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with leaving Coffey out there, but it's a decision that I could see going either way. Him going one way or the other doesn't mean that he lost the game for us or that he's incompetent.

Asking a lot of Coffey to go three and start with Votto. Weren't we the guys with arms in the pen? Macha fail.
But he's managing to keep his job! Anyone could see that Coffey totally didn't show signs of being gassed the inning prior, and that asking a short reliever to go 4 innings was a great idea!

Speaking for myself and I'm sure members who were in the chat will vouch for it. I said I didn't want Coffey pitching another inning since he gave up hard hit balls the inning before and asking a reliever to go three innings is way too much to ask. Especially when they showed signs of being tired the previous inning.

And I actually said I didn't want Coffey pitching before he gave up the Votto bomb. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

No kidding, I shut the TV off with one out in the top of the 9th and went to bed...Needless to say I was stunned by the score this AM. Bad outcome, but sounds like a fun process was had before the final.

Why did Coffey go 3 innings?

I did not stay up after the ninth (thank goodness), but I think the more obvious place to criticize Macha was back in the 5th. They had planned on an 80 pitch limit for Suppan, but instead of sticking to that, when Suppan had struggled the whole time, he sent him out in the 5th to give away one extra run. He could have double switched with Cat (since doing it with Kendall would be unthinkable) even though Rock said "it's a little too early for a double switch".

Really "too early" what difference does it make if you double switch or use a pinch hitter. Either way you have used up one bench guy. Was it really critical to keep Cat in there? (not to mention Kendall)

Macha's choice for 3rd base coach is also a very questionable decision. Why does that guy still have a job?
