Any interest in picking him up, thinking to next year moreso than this year? He was just released by Boston. I know he's been pretty bad this year, but if we dangle Hart in the off-season, Duncan could be a guy to consider in LF. He could probably be had for cheap and might really pay off. I'd bet he'd like to be in the NL and NL Central at that. Thoughts?

Wouldn't be a bad platoon guy in LF with a RH hitter.

He's an absolutely terrible outfielder and can't hit LH pitching whatssoever. His only role should be as LH PH, basically Kevin Mench 2.0 but worse vs. non platoon strength.

No, please no. He's among the bottom 2 or 3 OF defensively I've ever seen and he's a whiff machine. His minor league numbers aren't even that good. Had he not been Dave's kid, he probably doesn't make the big leagues. I don't think he'll ever put up numbers like he did in his 2 good years in St. Louis. They'd be much better off bringing back Catalanotto, even at age 36.

Duncan, on a minor league deal, would be great. If he's healthy, he's a fine platoon player, though as stated, he can't play defense at all.

Might even help get Dave Duncan here to help our pitching staff. A longshot I know, but it could be. I know Dave was furious that his son was dealt for Lugo.

If Chris Duncan brought us Dave Duncan, it would be one of the greatest aquisations in franchise history. Look at the nobodies that have had great years under Dave Duncan. He made Jeff Suppan look good. he made Jeff Weaver good, Joel Pinero, Braden Looper, Todd Wellemeyer, the list goes on and on. Without Duncan, the Cardinals would struggle to be a .500 team.

 

Rather than spending $10 million on a FA pitcher, this team could just give Chris Duncan $800 K and Dave Duncan $1 million, and it would have a dramatically bigger difference on our team ERA.

Honestly, I don't know how Dave Duncan doesn't get paid $3+ million a year.
