Odorizzi with a nice day on the hump, too bad Helena has been playing brutal baseball this half, well most of the organization outside of BC has stunk in the second half.

Lucroy's hit streak also comes to an end, which is too bad.

Gamel isn't playing again today, I hope it's nothing serious that's keeping him out of the lineup.

Hopefully Taylor Green is pulling out of his slump, he's not had a monthly BA at .250 or below since April of 2007, in July he batted .238 and he's batting .197 through yesterday's action in August. This is by far the longest slump of his short career, I was pretty excited about his .936 OPS in June then the bottom fell out. It would be sweet to have him finish strong and rake in the AFL.

Final: Nashville 6, Albuquerque (Dodgers) 5

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Almonte Powers Sounds To 6-5 Win

ALBUQUERQUE - The Nashville Sounds beat the Albuquerque Isotopes 6-5 on Sunday evening at Isotopes Park after belting three home runs on the evening. The win ends a seven-game losing skid for Nashville (66-63), and keeps the Sounds 2.5 games behind Memphis in American Northern Division after a Redbirds win on Sunday.

First baseman Erick Almonte went 2-for-5 with a double and season-high four RBIs, including his first home run of the season.

Sounds starting pitcher Chase Wright (8-7) earned the win after throwing his seventh quality start this season, surrendering three runs on six hits over seven innings for Nashville.

The Isotopes took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning by a two-run homer to left field by third baseman Hector Luna, his 15th of the season.

Sounds third baseman Adam Heether answered with his 14th home run in the next frame that brought the Sounds within one run. Nashville tied the game at two in the top of the third when outfielder Corey Patterson scored on a groundout by Almonte.

Almonte delivered another run in the top of the fifth inning when he doubled home Adam Stern that gave Nashville a quick 3-2 lead.

The Isotopes tied the game in the next frame on a sacrifice fly by Chin-lung Hu.

The Sounds went back ahead when Almonte belted a two-run home run in the seventh inning off Albuquerque right-hander Hyang-Nam Choi (9-2), his first of the season for Nashville.

AUDIO: Erick Almonte's First Home Run

Pinch hitting for Wright in the eighth inning, Joe Koshansky added his 21st homer on the year, a solo shot that extended the Nashville lead to 6-3.

Luna brought Albuquerque within one run at 6-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning with a two-run single that scored Sergio Garcia and Chin-lung Hu. The Isotopes threatened to take the lead later in the inning, but Sounds closer Chris Smith threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up his 15th save of the season.

The Sounds and Isotopes play the third game of a four-game series at 7:35 PM CT on Monday night at Isotopes Park. Left-hander Chris Cody (6-7, 4.69) takes the mound for Nashville against Isotopes righty Tim Corcoran (0-0, 7.27).

Nashville Box Score

J.J. Hardy singled three times, 3-for-5 day; Corey Patterson doubled, singled, and walked -- .933 OPS in 75 Nashville AB's; Don Money had Erick Almonte hitting cleanup despite the zero home runs coming in, he must have had a premonition; Adam Heether has reached base seven times the last two games -- what a season; LHP Chase Wright proving to be a servicable AAA starter, but look at the K/BB ratio -- 51 K's and 49 walks in 123.2 innings, that's not missing many bats...

Final: Montgomery (Rays) 8, Huntsville 3

Huntsville Site Game Summary

Big Inning Pushes Biscuits to Victory

Montgomery's Morse a Winner For First Time in Three Months

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Ryan Morse worked six solid innings and a six-run sixth inning outburst carried Montgomery to an 8-3 victory over Huntsville Sunday afternoon in the second of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Biscuits have taken the first two contests to improve to 27-29 in the second half and 60-66 overall, while the Stars lost a third straight game to fall to 21-35 in the second half and 59-66 overall. The Biscuits have won six straight over the Stars after dropping the first game in the season series.

Brett Lawrie tucked a looping fly ball just inside the right field and legged it into a triple to lead off the home first inning and came in to score on a single by Shane Justis, who drove in his first run since August 2.

Stars' starter Nick Green had blanked the visitors on three hits through five frames before they strung together five singles to produce three runs and knock the right-hander out of the game after 5 1/3 innings of work. Chris Nowak tied the game with a base hit before Cody Cipriano's single put the Biscuits ahead to stay at 2-1. Cody Strait's run-scoring hit pushed the lead to 3-1 and sent Green from the game after he had allowed eight hits, while issuing one walk and fanning one. He was followed by Bobby Bramhall, who gave up a sacrifice fly to Matt Spring and a two-run double to Brandon Chaves that finished the rally. Green took the loss to fall to 0-5 in five starts and once again received small run support, as the Stars have totaled four runs while he has been on the mound.

Nowak doubled in a run in the seventh to push the lead to 7-1 and hand the bullpen a six-run cushion after Morse allowed a run on five hits to earn his third win of the season and his first since May 4. The right-hander walked one and fanned two and was followed by Matt Gorgen, who retired the side in order in the seventh and then yielded a two-out, solo home run to Drew Anderson in the eighth that cut the visitors' lead to 7-2.

Freddy Parejo singled in a run in the bottom of the ninth to make it an 8-3 score and the Stars loaded the bases with one out before Mike Wlodarczyk struck out Justis and got Anderson to line out to end the game. The Stars are hitless in eight bases loaded at-bats in the series, with five strikeouts. Jonathan Lucroy went hitless in three at-bats with a walk and lost a 22-game hitting streak that matched the longest in franchise history set by Mickey Lopez from August 2-25, 2000.

The series continues Monday night with Stars' right-hander Josh Butler making the start against Biscuits' right-hander Rayner Oliveros. Coverage of the game begins at 6:45 PM central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Stars' offense not aiding Green

Despite winless start to Huntsville career, pitcher keeps working

By Brad Shepard

For The Huntsville Times

For Stars starting pitcher Nick Green, his five starts in a Huntsville uniform have been like pitching while walking a tight rope: He has to be nearly perfect for any payoff.

Though he didn't help himself much Sunday with a shaky sixth inning, allowing five runs and getting pulled in that six-run frame that led Montgomery to an 8-3 win, he still received little help from his teammates.

Since being demoted from Triple-A Nashville, Green has gotten four runs of support while on the mound. Sunday's loss dropped his record to 0-5.

"It's one of those things," Green said. "These guys are obviously capable of putting up runs and winning ballgames. It's just a phase we're in.

"It's in the back of my mind, sure, but whether it's 1-0 or 10-0, you have to go out there trying to win every inning."

Green hasn't been perfect, but he has deserved better than a winless record. His teammates know he's pitched better than that, despite struggling Sunday.

"For whatever reason, we're just not putting up runs when he's out there," Stars outfielder Drew Anderson said last week. "Since coming down from Nashville, he's pitched well. If he keeps pitching like this in the playoffs, he could lead us to a championship."

Green's first five innings were dazzling Sunday, as he shut out the Biscuits and breezed after his teammates gave him a single run of support in the first. However, from there the Stars wouldn't score again, and Green eventually ran into an inning he couldn't escape, raising his ERA from 2.95 to 4.64 in the process.

After coming over from the Los Angeles Angels' organization prior to this season, the lanky, 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-hander made it all the way to Nashville, but he had a difficult time getting outs there. As a Sound, he went 2-4 with a 6.68 earned run average before being demoted.

"I was in the bullpen up there, and I gave up some runs, and it was getting into my head a little bit," the 24-year-old said. "I think I was giving hitters too much credit and doubting myself. I'd give up a hit and think in the back of my mind, 'Here we go again.'

"They sent me down here to start and get more innings, and the mental part is coming back. I have to know there's a reason I was in Triple-A at such a young age. I'm starting to regain the confidence I once had."

Final: Daytona (Cubs) 11, Brevard County 2

Game Summary from the Daytona site:

Cubs Offense Sparks Team to Victory

Cubs Score Six Run in First Two Innings

In the final game of their season long rivalry the Daytona Cubs (24-31) offense pummeled the Brevard County Manatees (31-19), 11-2.

The Cubs jumped on top of the Manatees in the first. Tony Campana led off the game with an infield single to the left side. Campana advanced to second after Manatees starter Alex Periard walked Josh Vitters. Brandon Guyer singled to center and drove home Campana to give the Cubs the early lead.

The Cubs offense opened the game wide open in the second. After Periard (1-2) struck out the first two batters in the inning, he allowed a single to Jericho Jones, walked Campana and then allowed both runners to advance on a wild pitch. Nate Samson then brought home both Jones and Campana with a single to right field. Guyer picked up his second RBI of the day as he singled to left field which scored Samson.

That would be it for Periard as Brandon Rapoza was brought in for the Manatees to try end the inning. Rapoza did the exact opposite, Jake Opitz hit a two-run double to left field and gave the Cubs a 6-0 lead before Rapoza finally ended the frame.

Rafael Dolis (3-8) had his strongest performance of the month as he pitched five innings and gave up just one run on five hits.

That one run came on a Sergio Miranda two-out single as Miranda drove home Chris Errecart who led the inning off with a base hit.

The Manatees added another run in the sixth. Off Cubs reliever Hank Williamson, Logan Schafer hit an infield single to start of the inning. Schafer scored on a double from Eric Farris.

The Cubs would pad their lead with five runs over the last two innings and on the day tallied 16 hits.

Brevard County Box Score

Eight different Daytona batters reached at least twice, yikes; it's pretty much been a lost developmental season for RHP Alex Periard, many might forget he's on the 40-man roster; LHP Dan Merklinger got in four innings of work, but was relatively ineffective, although three of the runs he allowed were unearned; Manatees stroked nine base hits, but didn't draw a walk -- this bunch has been in the bottom third in the league in walks all season, despite all the other good things they've done offensively...

Final: Wisconsin 8, Cedar Rapids (Angels) 5

Wisconsin Site Game Summary

Wisconsin rights the ship

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers snapped a brief two game losing streak with an 8-5 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. The Rattlers took advantage of plenty of mistakes by the playoff bound Kernels and also hustled their way to a few runs.

Cedar Rapids pitchers walked five, hit five, and threw three wild pitches in the game.

The teams traded runs in the first inning. Roberto Lopez singled in the Cedar Rapids run for a 1-0 lead. Brock Kjeldgaard singled to right with Mike Brownstein on first. Brownstein easily made third. Then, the routine throw to the infield got away. Brownstein scored on the error to tie the game.

Wisconsin (57-68 overall, 23-32 second half) took the lead in the bottom of the third. Kernels starter Ryan Chaffee allowed a hit and hit two batters to load the bases. With one out, Kyle Dhanani sent a slow grounder to short. The Kernels got the force at second base, but Dhanani beat the play to first. As the Kernels tried to turn the inning ending double play, Brownstein, the runner at third, and Kjeldgaard, the runner at second, both crossed home plate.

Cedar Rapids (70-56, 30-26) tied the game in the top of the fourth. Nolan Brannon's RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Jeff Jones evened the score 3-3.

The Rattlers broke the tie with four runs and a little help from reliever Francis Cabrera in the fifth inning. Wisconsin scored two runs on two different wild pitches by Cabrera. The righty walked one, hit two, and gave up two hits. The second hit was a two-out, two-run single by Josh Prince that put the Rattlers up 7-3.

The Kernels got to within two runs in the top of the sixth on a run scoring wild pitch and an RBI grounder by Jones.

But Derrick McPhearson gave Wisconsin an insurance run with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth and Evan Frederickson kept the Kernels off the scoreboard for the final three innings to preserve the win.

The save was Frederickson's second of the season and he worked around two walks, a hit batsman, and a wild pitch with three strikeouts. Nick Tyson, who entered the game in the fourth inning, pitched 2-1/3 innings and picked up his fourth win of the season.

The start an eight-game road trip on Monday night in Burlington. Wisconsin has Cody Scarpetta (4-9, 3.40) as the scheduled starting pitcher. Burlington will send Tim Mellville (5-7, 4.10) to the mound. Game time is 6:30 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

LHP Evan Frederickson outshone RHP Wily Peralta in this one; five Rattlers were hit by pitches -- add that to four walks and eight base hits, and it was a productive day for a lineup that doesn't inspire via the batting averages in the box score...

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers break attendance record

By Ryan Wilson

Appleton Post-Crescent staff writer

GRAND CHUTE - Neenah's Judy Youngquist was honored Sunday for being the fan who broke the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' single season attendance record.

Youngquist was one of 5,459 fans who attended the Timber Rattlers' game against Cedar Rapids. More importantly, she was the 405th person to enter the stadium, allowing the team to top its old record of 233,797 fans set in 1996, the team's second season at Fox Cities Stadium.

The team's 2009 attendance now is 238,852.

Youngquist, who said she gets to several Timber Rattlers games, "but not as many as my husband," received several gifts for being fan No. 233,798.

Her prize pack included a Wisconsin jersey, a bat signed by the Timber Rattlers, tickets to a Milwaukee Brewers game, a gift card and a VIP suite to a 2010 Rattlers game. She also threw out the first pitch on Sunday.

"When we were in line, I saw them getting the cameras ready (behind the gate)," said Youngquist.

"I thought it would be someone behind us, but when we came through the gate it was me. I am very surprised because we knew it was happening, but I didn't think it was going to be me."

With his finger glued to a clicker, Timber Rattlers assistant general manager Aaron Hahn had to make sure the 405th fan entering the stadium was properly recognized.

"Yeah, you never want to get called out afterward, and I hope nobody was counting outside the gate," joked Hahn. "But we're just happy to have the record in place."

The Timber Rattlers are in the first year of an affiliation agreement with the Milwaukee Brewers that stretches through 2012, and have benefited at the box office from that association. But Rattlers president Rob Zerjav said other factors also have aided the club.

"The weather has been great, but I also think we've done a good job with our product here as far as customer service," Zerjav said. "When you come out to the ballpark, you're going to have a good time. A lot of new people came because of our affiliation (with Milwaukee), but they came back because of their experience here at the ballpark."

The team also has drawn fans from a larger area this year. From Milwaukee to Escanaba, Mich., interest in the team has grown.

Anticipating that growth, the team developed agreements with radio and TV partners that are best able to reach their new fans.

"This year we signed with WNAM for radio, and their reach is huge so you can get the games on a radio in a larger area," said Zerjav. "The TV games with Time Warner Cable reach into Milwaukee. (Brewers general manager) Doug Melvin has told me he's watched the games down there. So you know people are watching, and it's helped."

The Timber Rattlers are not resting on their laurels. The organization already is looking ahead to 2010.

"We want to have some downtime for the staff," said Zerjav. "But once September comes around we'll evaluate this season and begin to get ready for next year."

Judy Youngquist (center) of Neenah is congratulated by Wisconsin Timber Rattlers staff Angie Ceranski (left) and Aaron Hahn. Youngquist was the 405th fan through gates at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday, breaking an attendance record. Photo for The P-C by Wm. Glasheen

Final: Orem (Angels) 10, Helena 1

Helena Independent Record:

Orem blasts Helena again

The Orem Owlz took four out of five games in the series against the Helena Brewers, spanking Rene Gonzales' crew 10-1 in the series finale of the Pioneer League game Sunday in Orem, Utah.

The Brewers scored the only run of the season against Owlz starter Garrett Richards, but that was of little consolation when the Helena bullpen imploded in the fifth inning.

With the score tied at 1, Andre Lamontagne relieved Brewers starter Jake Odorizzi, who hurled four innings and allowed just one run on four hits, fanning four. But what was once a ballgame turned into a blowout as Lamontagne allowed six hits, seven runs (three of them earned) and had a pair of errors in one inning.

It was by far Lamontagne's worst outing of the season, as he picked up his third loss. He had not allowed more than two in an inning in any of his previous appearances this season.

Richards got the win for Orem.

Helena (5-14) improved on Saturday's offensive effort, getting six hits. Still, after five innings, it was all Orem. The Owlz (18-2) had 13 hits.

Second baseman Cutter Dykstra was 2-for-2 for the Brewers, who got the scoring started in the top of the second.

Cameron Garfield singled on a fly ball to center, then Shawn Zarraga followed with a single of his own. Dykstra then had a sacrifice bunt that advanced the runners, and Joey Paciorek got the lone RBI of the game on his groundout.

It was the second straight game in which Helena failed to get an extra-base hit.

Carlos Ramirez paced the Owlz at the plate, going 3-for-4 with the game's lone home run and his fourth of the season.

Richard Cates' RBI single to left field in the third gave the Owlz their first run of the game, the only run allowed by Odorizzi.

Orem continues to pull away with the lead in the Pioneer League South, while the Brewers can't seem to crawl out of the North basement. Helena has an off day today before returning home to host Billings at 7:00 PM (8:00 Central) Tuesday.

DIAMOND NOTE: No player in the Helena lineup Sunday has a batting average above 300. However, seven of the Owlz batters top that, with first baseman Dillon Baird approaching .400.

Helena Box Score

By far this game overall was a positive purely on Jake Odorizzi's effort; Cutter Dykstra back, shaking off any head injury from earlier in the week...
