Anyone ever have an "Office Space" moment?

jaybird2001wi

Its been ten years since this movie came out and the more and more I work at my job, I have begun to have a lot of "Office Space" moments and I don't even work in the white-collar field.

I have Upper Management changing certain things without letting us know, I basically am a sucker for working late or on days I don't need to work. And now I am at the point where I feel like Peter Gibbons being interviewed by the guy from "Scrubs" when he says, "I got several guys telling me what to do and I don't need that. I have seven people telling me how to do my job. It's like where is the motivation?"

I have an occasional coworker asking me how to refill a fax machine with paper and how to use a computer. Anyone ever have these moments? It is starting to become hilarious that after four plus years I am starting to think like Peter Gibbons. The only thing my work needs is a guy that resembles Samir.

I work for a small-ish business (15 employees) in an office setting. I'm fortunate enough not to have to endure too much of the typical "Office Space" hullabaloo, but we did recently spend 3 hours passing around an email to discuss delegating a task that would have taken 10 minutes to actually complete. Stuff like that is usually less noticeable and easier to put up with when you're able to work from home like I am.

We did have an unintentional Dwight Schrute clone on staff for a good year and a half before he was let go. The know-it-all Schruted everything, and had the added bonus of being dumb as a rock.

It wasn't at work but last year my printer/scanner at home which was relatively new and after buying ink to refill it the damn thing kept giving me an error and telling me that it was the wrong cartridge when it was an exact match. I had a paper to write for school so after a couple of days of not working I lost it and took it out in my backyard and destroyed it with an old driver I had. I probably looked alittle crazy but %%#%%@! feel good to be a gangster.

I've been sitting next to the IKON multi-function printer/fax/scanner/copier for years and it always reminds me of Office Space. People opening and slamming every possible door trying to clear the paper jam. People kicking it, saying some choice words. It's been breaking down all the time, since it was brand new.

I've worked in a state government agency for over ten years. The staff meeting scene where they were discussing the proper coding of timesheets gave me flashbacks. The cover page for my monthly reports has also undergone several revisions over the years.

One of my coworkers retired after 34 years of service last year. I loaned him my copy of the movie and he commented that he could recall when government catalogs switched the brand of staplers that they carried to one that he didn't like.

As a side note, I met Ron Livingston's (Peter) sister. She was a co-anchor at Channel 8 in LaCrosse with a friend of mine from college.
