Brewer interest in Baldelli? Now Crawford?

Sorry, couldn't help but wonder if this is Greg and Mike Maddox's brother or cousin?

No, first off, note the different spellings of the last names, Maddux - Maddox.

Garry was a fleet footed centerfielder for the Giants and Phillies in the 70s and early 80s. Among other things, Garry is African-American.

If that is all that it takes to get Baldelli I think you would have to jump on that. Getting a player like Baldelli without giving up any of your core players or one of your elite prospects, IMHO, is a bargin.

If that deal happend I would think that we would have to go out and pay whatever it takes to get Jason Jennings. I don't really know what it would take but from some of the other rumored offers out there it shouldn't be to horrible of a price.

Hypothetically even after doing both those moves the Brewers would need to improve their bullpen, hopefully Jenkins, Mench and Clark could net us 2 quality relievers.

1- Baldelli

2- Estrada

3- Fielder

4- Hall

5- Weeks

6- Hart

7- Hardy

8- Koskie/Graffinino/Cirrillo/Braun

Starting Pitching

Ben Sheets

Chris Capuono

Dave Bush

Jason Jennings

Vargas

That looks like a potentially very good team. The bullpen would need some pretty major improvements though.

...except that it's Maddux, not Maddox, for Mike and Greg.

Wow. I thought 'Doesn't Get the Bit Guy' only existed on certain other message boards.

That said, I think Baldelli would be a welcome addition... It would be too bad if Villenueva would have to go, but I suppose you only get what you give. Although it'd be tremendous if they took Hendrickson instead. I know, wishful thinking.

Well, when someone says "Thanks in advance to anyone who can let me know," I would assume he's actually serious. Given how common that misspelling is, it's not an unrealistic question.

definitely a good name for Ueck to mess around with.

I used to always wish the Brewers would sign Hipolito Pichardo because Ueck would always just repeat his name over and over for an inning and it always cracked me up. Hipolito Pichaaaarrrrrrrdddooooooooo!

I always thought you weren't supposed to deal that much pitching depth for a single guy? Granted, I've always liked Baldelli, and it would be lovely to have him, but 3 pitchers, including Vill? Seems awful steep...

Guess I was just always under the assumption that pitching depth was more valuable, easier to replace one outfielder than 3 pitchers. Am I wrong in that thinking?

I like Baldelli, but he's not without risk. First, missing a year and a half is a concern. His play last year, however, makes him look healthy. Still, you never know.

But also he's another free swinger - rarely walks. He averages 25 walks per 500 ABs. Very Estrada-esque. Add in Hall, Weeks, possibily Jenks, you're talking about a lot of guys who like to take a whiff.

Again, not that I wouldn't take him. He looks like he'll be a good player, and at a premium position.

I guess for a promising, but not super high level guy like Carlos V., and Latin Cappy, it would be a reasonable deal. Aquino is just a guy at this point - don't really know that much about him, but he looks average. Perhaps I'm wrong there, as I don't know much about him.

We'd definately need another starting pitcher if we did the deal, otherwise we'd be relying on Zach Jackson, Hendrickson or Yo to be in the rotation (and that's not even factoring injuries).

Perhaps we could get them to take on a salary - say Clark. Just a thought.

I concur with fstorm completely. That's too many quality or could be quality arms for a CF whose defense has steadily gone downhill the last three years. His stick is improving, but I don't see Rocco as a CF for long...perhaps a corner outfield spot. It also doesn't fully address the need for a pure leadoff hitter on the team either.

fstorm, sure pitching depth is important but everyday players with the skills and track record of Baldelli who is just 25 and tied up through 2011 for a mere $26 million do not come along everyday.

It is not unreasonable to expect Baldelli to post a .300 BA, 20-30 HR per year, play a solid CF, steal some bases and be a cornerstone player. He's a farther along version of what we hope for from Corey Hart, with better defensive skills.

Ooops, sorry to mess things up guys.

I think I posted for about a year straight how I couldn't handle "Clemons" and "Maddox" being spelled around here. So my sly attempt at humor went awry. I should have used the blue font. My apologies upfront. I'm fully aware its not their brother/cousin.

Now, back to your regularily schedule Baldelli rumor.

I agree completely with John Briggs on this one. Especially given the friendly contract situation as well. I wouldn't give up a top tier guy, but a couple of promising good players and a nugget in Aquino- sure. Where does Doug sign?????

"(though I like Crawford more as a player, Baldelli probably fits better)"

actually I think Crawford fits better. He's a pure leadoff hitter when Baldelli isn't (he doesn't take walks), and we could certainly slip Hall into CF to play Crawford in left. Since both have good contracts, I'd rather offer up another prospect or add in cash and get Crawford. Plus Crawford's not injury-prone.

man, I'm just not going to get any work done this week, I'm always on this site and mlb.com to check for the next trade to come down or for the next comedic signing by the Giants.

Personally, I'd like to see them do all they can to avoid moving Hall to the OF.

Crawford doesn't really take walks, either. I think he's a down the order hitter, and not a leadoff hitter. The Brewers have Weeks to leadoff for the time being, anyway.

Like I said, though, I love Crawford. I'm more lukewarm on Baldelli, but they wouldn't have to give as much to get Baldelli, either.
