Bill Hall DFAed, Bourgeois called up

Hall for Vicente Padilla would make sense, with us paying the difference in contracts. We'd essentially get Padilla for free, and pay less of hall contract next year. Padilla has an ERA under 4 on the road this year. He needs a change of scenary even worse than Hall. We almost traded Pods for him a few years ago until the White Sox had to dump salary and let us have Lee.

Someone mentioned this in the "JJ Hardy to AAA" thread, but it really smells like there's a Hardy-and-Hall-for-high-priced-pitcher trade in the works. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to make sense to simply DFA Hall now, since you are going to have to pay him anyway. I thought it might happen in the offseason, when a suitable replacement could be found, but not now. It just seems odd.
I think this notion is more wishful thinking than anything. Hardy hasn't even been put through waivers per Melvin's quotes 2 days ago. You might get to claim a high-priced pitcher on waivers, but if he's any good, he's going to get pulled back -- or at least not made available for just Hall & Hardy.

MLBTR cites an Olney Insider column listing some possible trade destinations for Hall. Can anyone with Insider at least report who those teams are?

I can't quote the article, since it's behind the pay wall, but I can tell you that Olney doesn't provide any sources in the column, and is just speculating.

(My evil Twin, on the other hand, says Hall may be looking to drive a mercury Mariner automobile to his next Metropolitan destination.)
