Brewers get Weathers from CIN for PBTNL; Smith Optioned, Green DFA'd to make room

Great move as Weathers still has good stuff and great numbers. He's instantly a late inning reliever to complement Coffey

I hope they didn't have to give up too much for him as well. If what I found is correct, and I'm sure someone will double check this, I believe that Weathers has a team option is worth $3.7 million with a $400,000 buyout for 2010.

I like it; he is better than Smith, Burns, Difelice, and Villy. Key is that we likely gave up very little and this was a salary dump for Cincy.....

Weathers has been having a good year helping to set up for Cordero. He will definitely give us a viable 6th, 7th, and even 8th inning option to compliment Coffey and get the ball to Hoffman. Most likely Burns back to AAA, Colome, Vargas, and DiFelice all get pegged with 6th inning duty and when able we go Weathers, Coffey, Hoffman. It could be worse. A lot worse.

Nice pickup. I highly doubt anything significant was given up for him. I think it's a little too late and the Brewers are a little too shaky to risk making a big splash move that could gamble away our future to make a serious run this year, but it's nice to see Doug still making minor improvements to stay in the race.

I can't comment on how good this deal was until we find out who the PBTNL was, but initially it looks good because Weathers is a guy who can get outs in the late innings. We'll see what the cost was though.

Good move if they were in it, but they're not. Come on, they're 6 back of St. Louis and 4 1/2 back of the Cubs. They're worse off in the WC race. Like David Weathers is going to be that much of a help. Please. Melvin needs a reality check. He should be selling, not buying.

I don't think we are going to be giving up much of a prospect in this deal. In Cincy they are reporting that the Reds have the option of taking cash instead of a player. They wouldn't throw that option in there if they already had one of the better prospects in mind.

I'd have been a lot more gung-ho about this move after the Dodgers series in LA. As it stands, I'm not sure what the purpose is, despite how Stormy's been pitching this year, unless they're planning on picking up that option for next season, which is a bit hard to imagine but who knows

Unless Weathers retires he would be a valuable addition to the bullpen, especially if they don't spend any money on the closer. Villanueva, Weathers & Coffey could possibly be the bullpen, and that frees up more money to spend on this rotation, Hardy & Hart, Cameron & Kendall all go and re-tool this team Doug!!!
