Given Mass' connectivity issues, I decided to go ahead and get today's link report off and running. I copied and paste a previous link report, so the standings as shown above are from Thursday if someone wants to take a shot at updating it. Also, the individual game links may not be correct, as I didn't see them up as of 9:30 this morning. I'll try to check back in around lunch time to see if the correct links are posted on MiLB.com and share those here.

Nice to see Odorizzi scheduled to go tonight for the first time in several weeks, and while both Mark Rogers and R.J. Seidel continue to try and re-establish themselves as legitimate prospects. As noted in yesterday's link report (thanks to TheCrew07 for his continued efforts!!!), RHPs Damon Krestalude and Adrian Rosario are expected to relieve Lamontagne and Odorizzi respectively.

I have a couple of generic questions. Sorry if these are obvious ones.

Do they not play half seasons in AAA anymore?

Has Arnett pitched lately? It seems like everytime I check the link report he is not pitching? Is he not starting? How has he been doing?

Thanks!

Brett interviews Kevin Melillo. They were having some fun with the interview trying to break the slump so I cut off the interview and switched to Steve Wendt in Helena when that interview started.? The buzz you hear every minute or so is not your speakers, I'm test driving a new capturing program and that's what the evaluation version does.

Helena drops game 1, and unearned run proved the difference. Krestalude did give up 6 hits and 1ER in 5IP but walked none and struck out 4.

Rogers goes 3.2IP as was cruising along until he hit his pitch count. He gave up 2H, 2BB, 0R, with 4K in his 3.2. Errecart has 3 hit game thus far BC up 4-2 in the 6th.

Nashville has just gotten underway no score after 1 complete.

Seidel and Almonte get crushed, the T-Rats are down 10-0 in the 6th.

Game 2 in Helena has just gotten underway.

Game 2 in Billings is delayed with a huge thunderstorm that is dropping hail the size of Kix cereal according to Steve. I doubt they'll be back out, Helena is up 1-0.

Final: Peoria (Cubs) 14, Wisconsin 5

Wisconsin Site Game Summary

Peoria perpetuates Wisconsin's skid
By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs scored eight times in the fourth inning to get out to a 10-0 lead. They held off the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers the rest of the way for a 14-5 win. Nelson Perez hit a three-run homer in the big inning and the Chiefs banged out 19 hits against the Rattlers.

The Chiefs (62-48 overall, 24-17 second half) grabbed an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Brett Jackson singled to start the inning. Ryan Flaherty followed with an RBI double to left-center. One out later, Kyler Burke singled to drive in Flaherty.

Peoria pulled away from a struggling Wisconsin team in the fourth inning. R.J. Seidel gave up back-to-back singles to start the inning. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, Perez drilled a 1-2 pitch over the right field wall for a three-run homer and a 5-0 lead.

An infield hit, a walk, and a fielder's choice followed to put runners at the corner with one out. Flaherty singled to drive in a run and knock Seidel out of the game.

Rigoberto Almonte entered at that point and was greeted with an RBI single by Rebel Ridling and a two-run double by Kyler Burke to make the score 9-0. Almonte got the second out of the frame with a strikeout, but Jovan Rosa doubled in the eighth run of the frame for a 10-0 lead.

Wisconsin (48-63, 14-27) got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Josh Prince scored from third on a wild pitch to stop Peoria's shutout bid. Brock Kjeldgaard ran his hitting streak to eight games with an RBI single later in the inning.

But the Chiefs were not done with the scoring. D.J. LeMahieu doubled in a run in the sixth inning. Mario Mercedes knocked in a run with a single and Junior Lake's RBI fielder's choice made it 13-2. Rosa knocked in the final Peoria run of the night with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Brett Lawrie made some noise in the top of the eighth inning. Prince reached on an error and Pete Fatse doubled. Then, Lawrie lined a long home run to left. The blast, Lawrie's eleventh of the season, made the score 14-5 and wrapped up the night for the offenses.

Alberto Cabrera was the winning pitcher for Peoria. He went five scoreless innings, allowed three hits, and struck out two for his sixth victory of the season.

The loss was the seventh straight for the Rattlers. Wisconsin is 3-21 in their last 24 games.

Game three of the series is Sunday afternoon. Trey Watten (4-11, 4.30) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Chris Archer (3-4, 2.82) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 2:00 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

I was really excited about this WI team coming into the season, I even thought they would make the playoffs in the 2nd half. This collapse has caught me totally by surprise, I'm shocked. The Good... Lawrie goes 2-4 with a HR (11), Fatse 1 for 1 with a double and 3 more walks. That's 6 walks for Peter in the last 2 games. The Bad.... Kemp of all people with a CS? Fatse with a CS. The Ugly... Seidel gives up 8 runs, 7 earned in 3.1, Almonte gives up 2ER in .2IP, Nieves gives up 4ER in 4IP.

Wisconsin Game Log

Peoria's bottom of the 4th all they would need.

Final: Mississippi (Braves) 9, Huntsville 1

Huntsville Site Summary

Braves Break Open Close Game to Beat Huntsville

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Kyle Cofield worked six solid innings and a seven-run eighth inning broke open a close game in Mississippi's 9-1 victory over Huntsville Saturday night in the second of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Braves have taken the first two games to improve to 21-21 in the second half and 52-60 overall, while the Stars dropped a fifth straight to fall to 15-27 in the second half and 53-58 overall. The Stars have fallen in ten of their last 11 games and are 20-27 at home.

The Stars loaded the bases in the home second on a single and two walks but Cofield worked out of trouble by getting Adam Stern to ground into an inning-ending double play. The Braves strung together three singles to load the bases with one out in the third before Stars' starter Nick Green was able to escape any damage when Brandon Hicks lined into an inning-ending double play.

Jason Heyward led off the fourth inning with a single and scored the game's first run on a two-out double by Eric Campbell. The Braves added a run in the sixth when Campbell singled home Freddie Freeman with two outs to knock Green out of the game after the right-hander had allowed seven hits, walked one and fanned four. Green has lost both of his starts with the Stars.

Cofield had retired 10 straight Huntsville hitters until Shane Justis led off the home sixth with a double, moved to third base on a ground ball out and scored on a wild pitch. The right-hander was lifted after allowing three hits, walking three and fanning three. Cofield beat the Stars for a second time this season and raised his record to 8-3. Deunte Heath, Jerome Gamble and Kevin Gunderson blanked Huntsville on one hit over the final three innings, as the home side collected only two hits after the second inning.

Juan Sandoval's two-run throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt sparked the Braves' rally in the eighth, as the visitors scored seven times with three hits, three errors, three walks, a hit batter and three fielder's choice grounders. Matt Young collected three hits and walked twice and has reached base in nine of his 12 plate appearances in the series. Campbell, Kody Kirkland, Phillip Britton and Heyward each added two hits as part of a 14-hit attack. The Braves have totaled 27 hits in the first two games.

The series continues Sunday afternoon with right-hander Mark Holliman taking the hill for the Stars against Braves' southpaw Jose Ortegano. Coverage of the game begins at 12:45 pm central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

Anderson 2-4 with a double, Justis 1-4 with a double, and a single out of Hopf the only offense in this one. Green posts one of his better outings on the season, going 5.2 IP with 7H, 2ER, 1BB, and 4Ks. Bramhall wild but effective in his 1.1. Sandoval doesn't record a single out in the 8th, Wahpepah finishes the game. 4 errors in the game, 3 errors in the 8th alone. Opposing Pitcher Cofield should have been a familiar name, I just profiled him in yesterday's Link Report.

Final: Lakeland (Tigers) 8, Brevard County 5

Brevard County Box Score

Schafer, Farris, Wilson, Errecart, Haydel, and Wheeler all with multihit games, that's 1-6 in the order. Errecart adds a double and Wheeler a HR, Brewer and Maldonano the only Manatees without a hit. Roger's night detailed above, he lowers his ERA to 1.97. For whatever reason Luetge seems to blow up every 3rd or 4th start and gives away the game in the 7th.

Final: Arizona Athletics 3, Arizona Brewers 2, ten innings

Arizona Box Score

Leadoff walk issued by RHP Jose Sanchez immediately scores on a triple in the top of the 10th -- even though the man on 3rd would be cut down at the plate on a subsequent fieldder's choice, that was enough for the loss; Brewer pitchers combine to strike out 15 Athletics, as RHP Andrew Dunn and LHP Matt Costello, each advanced for this league, combined for five shutout innings of relief; 19-year-old RHP Luis Guerrero continues to stretch out although this was his first start this season, and he had a busy four-inning stint here, walking four and striking out eight, allowing two runs; CF Franklin Romero homered (his first as a pro) and doubled, and nailed a runner at the plate in the 5th; catcher Tyler Roberts was lifted for the 6th inning after the play at the plate in the 5th, but that likely was not injury-related, catchers often split games in the heat...

Arizona Game Log

Brewers missed a golden chance to win the game in the bottom of the 9th...

Final: Colorado Springs (Rockies) 6, Nashville 5, 11 innings

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Link for Carlos Corporan photo, text follows --

Sounds Drop Heartbreaker To Sky Sox In 11

COLORADO SPRINGS - Colorado Springs outfielder Matt Murton delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the eleventh inning to give the Sky Sox a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Saturday evening at Security Service Field in the finale of a four-game series.

With the win, Colorado Springs gained a split of the four-game series against Nashville.

The Sounds (61-54) fell to 6-4 in extra-inning contests on the year follow the heartbreaking loss and had their lead over second-place Memphis reduced to just a half-game in the PCL American Conference Northern Division.

After Nashville grabbed a 5-4 lead in the top of the eleventh on a Carlos Corporan home run, the Sky Sox rallied for the second time to erase a late Sounds lead and won the game.

Eric Young led off with a single against Nashville reliever Ryan Houston and was sacrificed to second before Matt Miller's infield single put runners on the corners to set the table for Murton, whose 20th two-bagger of the year led to Nashville's eighth last at-bat defeat.

Murton stole the hero's star for the contest from Corporan, whose 11th-inning leadoff blast off Joel Peralta was the backstop's first in 176 at-bats, dating back to August 29, 2008.

Peralta (6-0) was bailed out by Murton and was awarded the win despite allowing the go-ahead run in his two innings of work for the Sky Sox.

Houston (5-4) took the loss for the Sounds after suffering his second blown save of the year and allowing two runs in his one-third of an inning of action. It was Nashville's second blown save of the night.

After Colorado Springs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, the Sounds rallied for three runs in the top of the third against Sky Sox starter Brandon Hynick to grab a 3-1 advantage.

Adam Heether (3-for-5) tied the contest with a one-out RBI single before third baseman Mat Gamel delivered a two-run single to right with two outs to put the visitors in front.

The Sky Sox rallied to knot the score with RBI singles in the fourth from Edwin Bellorin and in the fifth from Matt Murton, both off Sounds starter Chris Narveson. Nashville moved back in front in the seventh when Corey Patterson tripled off former big-leaguer Mike Timlin then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Joe Koshansky.

Colorado Springs re-tied the contest in the bottom of the eighth, plating a run against reliever David Johnson to make it a 4-4 game. Christian Colonel led off with a single, was sacrificed to second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Daniel Ortmeier's one-out single to right.

Gamel stifled a Sky Sox attempt to win the contest in the tenth when he threw out Chris Frey, who had tripled, at the plate as he attempted to score on a Bellorin grounder.

Narveson turned in a quality start for Nashville, allowing three runs on seven hits in his six innings of action, but took a no-decision for his efforts follow the blow save.

The Sounds continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon with a 5:05 PM CT opener of a four-game series in Salt Lake. Right-hander Tim Dillard (10-4, 3.84) will make the start for Nashville to face Bees right-hander Dan Denham (8-7, 5.28).

Deja vu for Brewers in doubleheader

By AMBER KUEHN - Helena Independent Record

The Helena Brewers managed to get one game in Saturday night.

But following a night when the game was postponed due to rain, wild weather once again ruined the Brewers' plans.

Helena fell to the Billings Mustangs, 2-1, at Dehler Park in the first game of the scheduled doubleheader. Helena got off to a strong start in the second game, but strong rain and hail came pouring down in the fourth. Now, the Brewers will have to pick up the game Sept. 4 in Billings.

That contest will be continued where they left off.

"It was horrible," Helena manager Rene Gonzales said after the game was finally called. "I've never seen anything like it. It was hailing and the temperature must have dropped about thirty degrees."

Lately, pitching has been problematic as the Brewers bullpen has struggled some.

But this time, it was the Helena offense that couldn't get anything going.

Helena mustered just four hits in the first game, with only Mike Brownstein, Chad Stang and Chris Ellington recording hits.

Stang's RBI single got the Brewers on the board in the top of the third, but as has been the case lately Helena couldn't hold on. Damon Krestalude, who relieved starter Andre Lamontagne to start the second, held the Mustangs scoreless just two more innings after Helena staked the lead.

The Billings bats got hot late in the fifth. With two outs, Mark Fleury doubled on a line drive to Helena right fielder Scott Krieger. In the next at-bat, Frank Pfister singled on a ground ball to center to score Fleury.

Billings added the go-ahead run in the sixth on Christopher Richburg's RBI single.

Stang was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to pace the Brewers. For the Mustangs, Pfister led with an RBI off 1-for-2 hitting.

"Well, we scored a run," a frustrated Gonzales said. "Krestalude was pitching well enough to win. We just played poor enough to lose."

The pitching was solid in the seven-inning contest, with Billings starter Luca Panerati throwing the complete game. Panerati picked up his second win of the season, striking out five batters and giving up just one run on four hits.

Lamontagne threw just one inning, as was originally planned, and was taken out after retiring three Mustangs on ground-ball outs. Krestalude was handed his third loss of the year, giving up six hits, two runs and fanning four in five innings.

Helena got some confidence at the start of the second game with Jake Odorizzi on the mound. Odorizzi hadn't pitched in a game since July 16, and the righthander looked shaky at first, walking a batter and giving up a double. Odorizzi hurled his way out of the jam though, then struck out the side in the second inning before being relieved by Adrian Rosario in the third. Odorizzi finished with five strikeouts in just two innings of work.

"It was no doubt good to see him back," Gonzales said. "He had the ball coming out pretty well."

Helena had plenty of scoring opportunities in the third. The Brewers loaded the bases when Brownstein singled to right and later stole second. Mike Marseco was walked, then Krieger reached on an error. Unfortunatley for the visitors, they wouldn't plate a single run.

"It's kind of the same old story," the Brewers skipper said. "The heart of our order has to pick it up. There's no getting around it. If we're going to win this half we're going to have to start hitting the ball."

Shawn Zarraga grounded out for an RBI to score Cameron Garfield in what would be the final inning before the crazy weather stopped the game, giving the Brewers a one-run lead, one they can hold for 24 days.
