If McD's fries are bad, what fast food chain has good fries? I'd take McD's over any other chain in the fry department.

I guess I prefer Burger King's fries. The last few experiences I've had with McD's fries they've been 'soggy' in comparison to a place like BK. I'm sure preference is one thing, but I do think over the years McD's has gotten worse. I'm not a fan of 'soggy' fries.

With these choices, I'd probably throw in for Culver's as well, and I always go the cheese curd route there. I can't even think what their fries are like at the moment.

Culver's has crinkle-cut fries.

For some reason, I can't stomach their cheese curds. I find them substantially over-salted, and I've always preferred battered to breaded.

Battered certainly wins hands-down, but outside of a fair/festival type setting, I don't know of anyone who actually does battered over breaded.

McD's has the most popular fries in the world. I think this may be an issue of you simply having different tastes than most.

Hannah Montana also sold a billion records, that doesn't mean it's any good...it's all demographics, and kids love fast food.

Checkers has really good fries, and their burgers are pretty descent too...i will second that in and out burger doesn't really have good fries either, I forgot about that since I've only been able to eat there 3 times in my life. Hot N Now used to have awesome fries, unfortunately that's a chain that is basically done thanks to Taco Bell (or KFC?) buying them out to use at a guinea pig for their items. The menu got all crazy and they went down the tubes. I used to eat at the one in Green Bay all the time when I went to school there.

This thread made me have to revisit In n Out last night for dinner. The burger is pretty good...still not butter burger worthy. The fries still suck if you don't get it animal style.

I believe Culver's uses an orange and white mix for their curds which I enjoy.

I'd have to throw a vote in for the Culvers Butterburger. That, with an order of 0-rings (putting 2 on the burger of course) is a great lunch/dinner for me...

I was very disappointed in McDonald's 1/3rd pound mushroom n' swiss. The burger was very dry. There was no sauce with the mushrooms either. I'll stick with Hardee's mushroom n' swiss. On the fries topic, Chick-fil-a has awesome waffle fries. I also like Arby's and Checker's too.

I would also throw my vote in for a Culvers butter burger. Reading this thread has me very hungry for one and I think I know where I am eating tomorrow on my lunch break. Also a big fan of Hardee's burgers.

As for fries, I like Culvers fries and Arby's curly fries.

Funny, I used to work at both Culvers AND Arby's http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I tried the Bacon/Cheese 1/3 pounder from McD's the other day, and it was excellent. It reminded me of the Bacon/Cheese Thickburger at Hardee's.

The Sobelman Burger at Sobelman's is my favorite outside of In N Out. Just freaking awesome. 19th and St. Paul - a short 3-4 min drive from Miller Park.

Sobelman's was the first place I went to eat when I moved here a couple of months ago. I had the Sobelman Burger and it was just awesome. I'm still trying to work up the nerve to try the double Sobelman.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "The Baconator" at Wendys yet. I don't get it often (as 2 jr. bacon cheeseburgers cost less, and I'm usually cheap when it comes to fast food...it's kinda the point, IMO), but it has all the components of my ideal burger.

Not a big fan of Culvers butterburgers, because they grill the life out of them; if you've ever had one without the lettuce and tomato, they're just too dry.

Agreed completely. I've long felt Culvers was vastly overrated for that very reason.

I understand your point on Culvers burgers being dry. I would argue that is restaurant specific since nearly all my experiences have been top notch burgers...occassionally you get a bad batch but that is the case at any restaurant.

5 Guys blows everything away for me, best burgers AND fries by far. i say this never having tried Culvers or In and Outs. I dont know what happened to Micky D;s fries or if I have somehow out grown them, but they are not what they used to be. Best fries IMO are 5 guys, Rally's and BK in that order. White Castles mimi chese burgers are the best "drunk" burgers. Id leave a club at 3 in a cab and go through the WC drive through and get 4 burgers, onion rings and a shake. I go to Sonic 2 or 3 times a week in the summer for their shakes, slushies and floats, but nevert tried their burgers. Someone once told me they were above average though.

I know we're talking mostly chain burgers here, but the house burger at The Old Fashioned in Madison is really something else. Bacon, a soft cooked egg, cheddar, fried onions and garlic sauce. The beef itself suffers from over-seasoning (too much worcestershire sauce?), but all those toppings on it were awesome. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to wake up the next morning after all that cholesterol but, dang. That was good. Not to mention the 150+ Wisconsin beers they have there. Cool place.

Yeah, I had Five Guys for the second time a couple weeks ago and it was excellent. Best burger I had in quite a while.

I used to really like Culver's, but it seems like they changed their pattys a while ago. Maybe it's just the ones around here, but it seems like they are thinner and dryer than they used to be. Just not very satisfying like I remember them being.

I see McDonald's has "angus burgers" now. Haven't tried them yet, but I generally avoid McDonald's these days.

I went there with some friends about a month ago because one of them heard it was supposed to be the best burger in town. I had the Double Sobelman burger and was very pleased with it. Having eaten at a lot of fast food places and bars around Madison and Milwaukee I would put that burger up on my list pretty high.

I have to go with the 5 guys crowd. I went to the one on State Street in Madison for the first time last Tuesday. It was the best fast food burger that I have had in a long time. The tomatoes and lettuce were excellent.
