Whew, thank god it's Bud and not Chuck.
And Bud is making his second big-league start. which I'd like to think spells less instant doom than making his first against the Brewers. Of course, he did just fine in his first start:
Norris pitched seven scoreless innings against the Cardinals, allowing only two singles, in his first Major League start Sunday in a 2-0 win over St. Louis. He walked four batters and struck out five while throwing 91 pitches. This will be his debut at Minute Maid Park. Norris, 24, was 4-9 with a 2.63 ERA in 19 starts at Round Rock this year, allowing 104 hits, 53 walks and striking out 112 batters in 120 innings. He was a sixth-round pick in 2006 out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
OK, go Brewers anyway. Put some positive distance between yourselves and the 'Stros.

I remember seeing Norris in the Triple A All-Star Game this year and coming away impressed with his (albeit short) outing. I'm not too optimistic about Villa's chances of keeping the ball in the park at the Juice Box, but he was surprisingly stellar in his last start. Putting some distance between the Brewers and the Astros during this series would be a great way to close out the road trip.

For as doom and gloom as this past month has seemed. I think our playoff destiny is in our hands. With a relatively easy August and a tremendous amount of heads up games in our division in Sept, I believe that if win, we are in.

That being said, we need to keep the winning train going and a series win against Houston will go along way. With Villy coming off a good performance, and Parra and Yo on the back end, I think that's very doable.

Wow, without Berkman in there that's one underwhelming lineup Houston's putting out. Hopefully Villa can be careful with Lee and Tejada and worry about getting everyone else out.

Edit: Houston's feed keeps showing the replay of the play at the plate, and to be fair to Fischer, it took a near-perfect relay from Lee and Tejada to get Counsell. Lee hit the cutoff man perfectly and Tejada fired a bullet to the plate. I do agree that it was an unnecessary risk, though.

He was safe! Counsell slid right under the tag! Another case of the ump calling a player out since the ball beat him there!
That play reminded me of Cameron's slide under the Nationals' catcher on July 30. Pudge knew to keep his feet closer together, but it did look like Counsell had room to sneak in there.

Of course, as has already been stated, it was unnecessarily risky to send him.

He definitely was safe and the ump was in TERRIBLE position to make that call. He was square behind the catcher, so he wouldn't have been able to see a bobble even if there was one.

It sucks, but it took a perfect barehanded pickup and throw by a crappy LF and a strong throw right on the money by Tejada to get him. Worse decisions have been made.
