Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Rogers, M 3.1 2 1 1 3 6 1 2.12

Rogers line for today. Left down 0-1. I'm assuming got to his pitch count and they pulled him. The 6 K's look great, the 3 BB not so much. Only gave up the solo HR. I wonder at any point this season if they will let him go 5 or 6 innings? Also if he is an AFL candidate.

Weird that Hall is playing in Nashville's second game even though he just got called back up.

fake edit: and just before I hit submit, he singles, but gets thrown out at first after rounding the base. Huh.

Huntsville Site Game Summary

Stars Stun Suns With Rally in Ninth

Struggling Huntsville Offense Ignites Against League's Top Closer

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Lorenzo Cain's two-out, two-run single keyed a five-run ninth inning rally, as Huntsville withstood a Jacksonville charge in the bottom of the inning to hang on for a 7-6 win Sunday evening in the second of a five-game set at the Baseball Grounds in Florida. The Stars snapped a five-game slide to improve to 15-22 in the second half and 53-53 overall, while the Suns lost for just a second time in their last 13 games to fall to 25-12 in the second half and see their lead over Birmingham in the South Division trimmed to three and a half games.

Matt Peterson, the league leader in saves, was called on to protect a 4-2 Suns' lead in the ninth. He walked Drew Anderson, the leadoff man, and gave up singles to Jonathan Lucroy and Taylor Green that loaded the bases before Mike Stanton overran the ball in right field to allow Anderson to score, Lurcoy to reach third and Green to get to second. Freddy Parejo popped up before the Suns intentionally passed J.R. Hopf to load the bases. Michael Garciaparra struck out for the second out prior to Cain, who lined a 2-2 pitch into left-center field that fell in front of a diving Scott Cousins to score Lucroy and Green to give the Stars a 5-4 lead. Adam Stern and Shane Justis each collected infield hits to knock in a run, as Huntsville put together its biggest scoring inning in two weeks. Huntsville had been held to seven runs in 50 innings before erupting against Peterson.

The Suns rallied in the bottom of the inning against Rob Wooten with run-scoring hits by Logan Morrison and Cousins to trim the visitors' lead to one. Lee Mitchell struck out for the second out with runners at the corners as Cousins stole second base. Chris De La Cruz was walked in front of Chris Hatcher, who grounded out to end the game. Wooten earned his sixth save in as many chances after being scored on for the first time in six appearances. Juan Sandoval earned the win with a perfect eighth inning in relief.

Suns' starter Brad Stone's bid for perfection was broken up by Hopf's leadoff double in the sixth inning. The right-hander retired the next two hitters before De La Cruz, the shortstop, made a throwing error on a Stern grounder that allowed Hopf to score and Stern to reach second base. Justis followed with a double off the glove of a diving Scott in center field to chase home Stern to cut the home team's lead to 4-2. Stone retired Anderson on a ground ball to end the inning and his longest performance of the season after yielding two unearned runs on two hits, while fanning three.

The Suns loaded the bases in the second with one out on a single, a walk and a hit batter before Scott drew a walk to force in the first run of the game. Ryan Klosterman singled off the glove of a diving Green at third base to deliver two runs and move Scott to third base from where he scored on a Josh Wahpepah wild pitch. Wahpepah was lifted after two frames, giving up three hits, walking four and fanning three in his fourth start of the season. Brandon Kintzler, in his second double-A appearance, tossed five shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out three to keep the Stars in the game.

The series continues Monday evening with Huntsville right-hander Donovan Hand taking the hill against Suns' southpaw Sean West. Coverage of the game begins at 5:50 PM central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

No win or save assigned to RHP Brandon Kintzler, but he was clearly the Stars' MVP here; more impressive about Lorenzo Cain's huge hit was that it came in a pinch-hit role; third consecutive multi-hit game for Jonathan Lucroy, who has hits in six straight and eight-of-nine...

Helena Site Game Summary

Brewers End First Half With Win

HELENA, MT-- Damon Krestalude pitched a season-high eight innings giving up only one run on five hits as the Brewers ended the first half on a positive note defeating the Mustangs 3-1.

Krestalude struck out seven and walked one as he picked up his third victory of the season. Chad Robinson picked up his first career save in a game that lasted only one hour and 35 minutes.

The Brewers scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Mike Brownstein, Chris Ellington and Sean Halton all drove in runs.

Luca Panerati gave up three runs on six hits in his fourth loss of the season.

The Brewers begin the second half tomorrow in Missoula against the Osprey. RHP Adrian Rosario (2-3, 2.53) will take the mound for the Brewers to face Keny Sosa (1-2, 5.82).

Helena Box Score

An hour and 35 minutes? Insane! Look folks, this is simply unheard of, what RHP's Nick Bucci (just turned 19) and Damon Krestalude (recently 20) are accomplishing this season with extended outings, and brilliant quick-moving outings at that -- there's simply no precedent for these seven- and eight-inning performances this decade for the Brewers' Pioneer League club. At Wisconsin, you still have Evan Frederickson, Efrain Nieves, and Wily Peralta in rotating starting / relief piggy-back roles, Cody Scarpetta the same until recently. Bucci and Krestalude, the 18th and 17th round 2008 picks, and yes, isn't that a welcome sight, developing mid-round pitchers -- don't look to be in need of any piggy-backing in 2010. When the '09 minor league season is wrapped up, their names will figure prominently in the organizational success side of the ledger. RHP Chad Robinson makes his first appearance in over a month...

Helena Game Log

Final: Quad Cities (Cardinals) 5, Wisconsin 3

Wisconsin Site Game Summary

Bandits take series

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Jarred Bogany tripled, homered, and helped the Quad Cities River Bandits build enough of a lead to hold off a late charge by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. The Bandits beat the Rattlers 5-3 and won two of the three games in the weekend series between the Midwest League teams.

Wisconsin (48-57 overall, 14-21 second half) took a lead right away. Juan Sanchez led off the first inning with a bunt single and went to second on a throwing error. Pete Fatse was next and his double to left knocked in Sanchez for a 1-0 lead.

But that was about all the Rattlers could do against River Bandits starting pitcher Miguel Tapia. The righty allowed two more hits over the next four innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out six to give his team a chance to get the lead.

Quad Cities (46-59, 16-19) broke through against Rattlers starting pitcher Evan Frederickson in the top of the fifth inning. Bogany tripled to start the frame and he scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Later in the inning, Nick Tyson relieved Frederickson with runners at first and third with one out. Frederickson finished his day with five walks and five strikeouts over 4-1/3 innings.

Tyson got Osvaldo Morales to send a slow chopper to short. Wisconsin got the force at second, but Morales beat the throw to first that could have ended the inning with a double play and the go-ahead run scored.

Frederick Parejo doubled in a run in the seventh inning to give the River Bandits a 3-1 lead.

Bogany made it a 5-1 game with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the eighth. That was crucial.

Quad Cities reliever Dave Carpenter, who had allowed two hits in the eighth inning without allowing a run, walked Michael Vass with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Derrick McPhearson followed with a single to right to put runners at the corners.

Erik Miller singled to send Vass home with a run and McPhearson around to third base. Carpenter struck out pinch hitter Jose Duran for the second out, but Sanchez singled to left to knock in McPhearson with the second run of the inning. The play also brought Fatse to the plate as the potential winning run.

The River Bandits went to Matt Frevert out of the bullpen and he retired Fatse on a grounder to first to end the game.

Wisconsin begins a four-game series with the Kane County Cougars on Monday night. R.J. Seidel (0-0, 4.32) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Cougars will counter with Mathieu Leblanc-Poirier (2-5, 4.96).

Monday is a Q'Doba Q'Monday at the ballpark. Fans who purchase a lunch entree at the Fox River Mall location of Q'Doba will receive a free ticket to the Timber Rattlers game. Also, the first 1,000 fans into the gates will receive a poster of All-Star pitcher Wily Peralta from Express Convenience Centers.

Game time is 7:05 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

Juan Sanchez and Pete Fatse combined for six hits atop the lineup; why was Wily Peralta pulled in the middle of the 7th? That's a very short scheduled piggy-back outing, and I hope we don't hear bad news this week...

Brett Christopherson's Chock-Full Blog Post

Link, text follows --

Guess the green socks weren't so lucky after all.

Looking to achieve their first winning streak in three weeks, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers instead were plagued by a bout of wildness on the mound on their way to a 5-3 Midwest League loss to Quad Cities on Sunday at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

Wisconsin players and coaches donned green socks for the second straight game, considering the look something of a good luck charm after whipping the River Bandits 11-3 on Saturday to snap a season-high seven-game losing streak. The socks initially were worn as part of a team promotion supporting environmental friendliness.

But it was Quad Cities that took advantage of some good fortune, parlaying eight walks into three big runs as it won two out of three against the Rattlers.

"Three runs was the difference," Wisconsin manager Jeff Isom said. "With our offense, we've been scoring runs on walks and errors, and that's what we ended up doing today. You've got to make them put the ball in play, and we didn't do that."

The key inning was the fifth, when the River Bandits scored twice to erase a 1-0 deficit and grab a lead they'd end up holding from there. Jarred Bogany opened the frame with a triple and then crossed the plate when Wisconsin starter Evan Frederickson uncorked a wild pitch.

Up next was Jose Garcia, who drew a walk but later scored the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice bouncer to second. The shortstop was caught running in a pick-off attempt but wound up advancing to third on a throwing error by first baseman Brock Kjeldgaard, whose toss to second was high.

Garcia walked again to lead off the seventh and came across two batters later when Frederick Parejo laced a one-out double to right. A one-out walk in the eighth was followed two batters later by a two-out, two-run homer to center by Jarred Bogany - the No. 9 man in the lineup - who tagged an 0-2 offering from reliever Liam Ohlmann over the center field wall.

Wisconsin tried to mount a rally in the ninth, scoring twice on singles by Erik Miller and Juan Sanchez before being retired on a groundout to first.

Sanchez and Peter Fatse paced the Rattlers with three hits apiece.

Frederickson struck out five and scattered four hits but walked five in 4 1/3 innings for the loss. The left-hander, a supplemental first round selection by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2008 draft, entered the game having issued the second-most walks in the league. He currently has allowed 58 walks.

"It's been a trend," Isom admitted. "It's something he's got to work through and figure out his delivery. He's working on a few things, and we need to get what he does in the bullpen and carry that over to the mound. But it's definitely something we're working on on a daily basis and it's just a matter of piecing it all together so we have a good final product there."

Turning point

The Rattlers had runners on the corners with two outs and two runs across in the ninth when Quad Cities reliever Matt Frevert was brought into the contest. The right-hander quickly ended the threat - and game - when he retired Fatse on a 3-1 putout.

Stat pack

46: Games the Rattlers have lost this season when scoring four runs or less. They've won 19 such games.

55: Home runs given up by Wisconsin pitchers. Bogany's blast was his second of the year.

239,044: Final home attendance figure should the Rattlers hit their current per-game average of 3,515 over their final 15 dates. That would eclipse the franchise record of 233,797 set in 1996 - Fox Cities Stadium's second season of operation.

Injury report

Isom said the hamstring injury suffered by Erik Komatsu during Saturday's win isn't serious and expects his outfielder to return to action shortly.

"He'll be out a few days here," Isom said. "We want to make sure the hamstring is 100 percent. There's maybe a little weakness in there (now.)"

The 21-year-old Komatsu, who has been sidelined by injury throughout most of the season, is hitting .243 with one homer and two RBI in 11 games. He was selected by Milwaukee in the eighth round of the 2008 draft and hit .321 with 11 homers and 47 RBI in 68 games last season at rookie level Helena.

"He's a guy we need to have in our lineup," Isom said. "He's very competitive at the plate, puts good at-bats there. So if we're going to have a run here in the second half, he needs to be part of it."

Did you know?

Quad Cities manager Steve Dillard is the father of Nashville Sounds hurler Tim Dillard, who is 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA this season in two appearances with the Crew. The Sounds are the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate. Steve Dillard, meanwhile, is in his fourth season as the River Bandits' manager and his fifth as a member of the Quad Cities' field staff.

2009 record: 34-36 first half, 14-21 second half.

2008 record: (as a Seattle Mariners affiliate): 31-35, 9-26.

Sunday's attendance: 3,530.

Overall attendance through 53 dates: 186,319 (3,515 average).

On deck

Game time: Wisconsin vs. Kane County on Monday at 7:05 PM at Fox Cities Stadium.

Season series: Kane County leads 6-5.

Up and throwing: Wisconsin - R.J. Seidel (0-0, 4.32 ERA); Kane County - Mathieu Leblanc-Poirier (2-5, 4.96 ERA).

Schafer with a double and two walks. The guy has been on fire lately, and he has had more walks than Ks.

Another solid outing from Axford. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get a roster spot on Sept. 1st if one is still available. In his last 11.1 IP he has only walked two and given up 9 hits (six in one outing) and K'd 11. Overall 11 hits in 16.1 IP with 8 BB and 18 K, and a nice 2.00 GO/AO. Outside of that one really bad outing he has been lights out in AAA.

Interesting that Chase Wright pitched an inning of relief three days after going seven innings. Could that be in preparation for a September callup to the Brewers bullpen? If anything they need starters right now.

Nashville Site Doubleheader Summary:

NASHVILLE - The Nashville Sounds lost both games of a twinbill to the Albuquerque Isotopes on Sunday evening at historic Greer Stadium after the Sounds recorded a combined four hits in both games.

Nashville (58-51) is now 6-6 in doubleheader action this season and stands 1/2 game ahead of Memphis in the American Northern Division.

Sounds center fielder Jason Bourgeois doubled to right-center to leadoff the nightcap, and then scored on an Albuquerque fielding error to give the Sounds an early 1-0 lead.

Albuquerque loaded the bases in the next frame, with A.J. Ellis bringing home Brett Harper on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one.

The game remained tied until the top of the eighth when Blake DeWitt hit a sacrifice fly to score Sergio Garcia, putting the Isotopes ahead at 2-1.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Joe Koshansky and Adam Heether walked to start a late rally for Nashville. The next batter Mat Gamel singled to right field, bringing Koshansky around to score from second, but was thrown out by right fielder Jamie Hoffman at home plate to end the game.

Scott Strickland picked up his PCL leading 24th save of the season.

Francisco Felix (1-0) earned the win, striking out one in one inning for Albuquerque. Henry Bonilla surrendered one run on two hits in four innings for the Isotopes.

Sounds starter Lindsay Gulin allowed one run on four hits while striking out one in five innings of work for the Sounds. John Axford provided two scoreless innings in relief. Ryan Houston (5-3) took the loss after allowing one run in the eighth inning for the Sounds.

Nashville Game Two Box Score

Sounds batters K'd 20 times in 15 doubleheader innings; Corey Patterson grounded out as a pingh-hitter in his Brewer organization debut...

Nashville Game Two Game Log

In the opener, Albuquerque knuckleballer Charlie Haeger held Nashville to one hit over six innings to lead the visiting Isotopes to a 4-1 victory.

Haeger (11-6) moved into sole possession of the PCL wins lead by earning his 11th victory of the year. He fanned eight batters and allowed one run on one hit in his six-inning stint.

Albuquerque took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Sounds starter Sam Narron. Tony Abreu led off with a single before moving to third on a Jason Repko double. Both runners scored on a bad-hop Jamie Hoffman single to third that struck third baseman Mat Gamel in the left shoulder before careening into left field.

The Sounds halved the lead in the bottom of the third when Narron reached on a two-base throwing error by Isotopes third baseman Hector Luna then scored on a Johnny Raburn double to left.

The Isotopes stretched the lead to 3-1 in the fifth when Narron issued a bases-loaded, two-out walk to Mitch Jones. Haeger scored unearned on the play as a result of a dropped catch error charged to Sounds shortstop Adam Heether on a force attempt earlier in the frame.

Albuquerque made it a 4-1 game in the sixth. Hector Luna and former Sound J.D. Closser opened the frame with singles off Narron. After a fielder's choice grounder that left runners on the corners, Haeger dropped a sacrifice bunt that plate Luna.

Bourgeois went 0-for-2 in the opener to snap his season-best hitting streak at 10 games.

Strickland worked a scoreless bottom of the seventh for the Isotopes to notch the save.

Narron (1-4) took the loss for the Sounds after giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits over six frames of action.

The teams continue the series with a 7:00 PM meeting on Monday night. Left-hander Chris Narveson (4-3, 3.97) will toe the rubber for Nashville to face a yet-to-be-determined Albuquerque hurler.

I thought that was interesting too. The Nashville announcer wasn't sure what to make of it last night, he mentioned that he was originally scheduled to start (today), but wasn't sure if that had changed. We'll see...

I was at the game yesterday and the trainer did come out (along with pitching coach Chris Hook) to look at Peralta in the 6th but they left him in and he finished the inning and came back out for the 7th. When he got pulled in the 7th it was just Isom who came and got him (no trainer) so if there was an injury it didn't appear to be too serious.
