Thanks Doug.......for nothing.

You can't make trade opportunities appear out of nowhere. This isn't like a video game where you can trade Bill Hall and Mike Rivera for Cliff Lee. The other GM has to want players that we're willing to give up, and that's not always easy.

And Mike Burns is probably better than Jeff Suppan...at least Burns can strike people out once in awhile.

Washburn is having a career year, no doubt about it. Overall for his career he is a 4.00 ERA pitcher in the American league, which isn't bad. That said, based on the fact he is having a career year you'd expect his numbers to at some point trend back towards the mean. Secondly, he will be 35 in a few weeks, so it isn't as if he's a spring chicken. Third, if he were truly that much of a difference maker as he is being claimed to be, don't you think someone, anyone, other than the Brewers would be seriously talking about him?

It has been said the Yankees are interested, but there is no buzz. The Phillies acquired Lee so their interest is probably moot. The real difference makers in this market are either injured, already acquired, or probably won't be traded. We were spoiled last year with the Sabathia trade and even the year before with Linebrink because finally it was us landing the big fish in the sea. We can't keep throwing our best bait in the lake when we know the majority of what is out there is minnows.

Also, keep in mind that last year, the Mariners were desperate to get rid of Washburn - they couldn't even give him away. Now he's suddenly worth trading Hardy or Weeks for? I'd take him, but not for that much money/assets.

If Washburn came over and pitched 100 innings for us he would add one win per run of ERA over those 100 innings. So if he came over and pitched a 4.00 ERA instead of the 6.30 Burns has put up that would add about 2 wins. That is assuming Burns is who he would replace. If we did acquire a pitcher they are likely to only pitch about 80 innings for us.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Everybody has made all the points that need to be made...

Yep. And a bunch of them cross the condescension line. It's time to close this topic.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
