Brewers have one "lingering" trade offer

dpapo

From the Brewers Web site,

"Melvin said the Brewers have one "lingering" trade offer on the table that would send a Brewers outfielder for a pitcher. He would not name the team, but the Orioles have shown interest in Jenkins and Mench, and the Phillies have some pitching depth since they acquired Freddy Garcia from the White Sox on Wednesday night. Melvin also has talked with the Giants about Jenkins.

"It's something we're contemplating and the other team is contemplating," Melvin said. "I don't know if it will happen or it won't happen."

If I had to make a guess, I would think it might be the Lopez for Mench deal, but that's just a guess on my part. Hopefully, something happens soon that is a good deal for the Brewers.

My bet would be Turnbow and Mench for Liebel with the Phillies...I still believe if there was a trade involving Mench straight up for a starting pitcher it would be done since Arbitration is on tues. and we have to do something.....Wouldn't it be great if it was Jenkins for Penny, since the word is Penny has lost trade value since is blowup at the coaching staff in LA, Melvin could be contiplating if the Brewers would take up his salary and attitude..If the deal is Mench/Jenkins for Lopez, Melvin's only excuse for delaying is to see what we write on this board about his comments....

Mench for Lopez straight up is just crap. Jenkins for Lopez would be a great deal for us.

Jenkins for Lopez would be good but Mench for Lopez would not be? I think they are both garbage but I think Jenkins has much more value than Mench. Maybe that's just me.

I would suspect Jenkins is seen as having more chance to return to nearly All-Star type form than Mench, who has been basically an average player throughout his career. I don't really care which gets traded for whom, as long as the trades benefit the Brewers. I don't think either one will be on Milwaukee's opening day roster.

If i were to pick I'd rather have Jenkins than Mench on the roster. I think Jenkins in a platoon role could be relatively productive and he's still decent in the field. I think I dislike Mench more for his trudging through the outfield than his lack of offense (at least with us last year).

Lopez doesn't excite me in the least but if that's what we'd get in a Mench deal, so be it. I'm still disappointed we're not being mentioned in any Baldelli deal but I think they (Rays) need pitching and we don't want to deal pitching before we get pitching in a Mench/Jenkins deal.
