Suppan to be checked out by a doctor (Reply #38ish: Placed on 15-day DL)

jwill535

Well the good news is that Dillard is better then Suppan, but the bad news is his tRA+ is still 77 (Or 77% of ML Average Pitcher). It's 10 points higher then Suppans and 11 points higher then Looper.

I know it's not your stat, but I find it hard to say Dillard is anything as a MLB starter without actually having that much time in the bigs. Again, I do like Dillard in the pen, but we really don't know what he's capable of until he gets a chance.

FTJ's got a point. While losing "bad Soup" might have a silver lining, the problem is who pitches whatever innings he misses.

It doesn't really matter at this point. Any pitcher willing to toss 4 innings while only giving up 5 or 6 runs will bring the same result as Suppan. Does it really matter who pitches? Narveson, Cody, Burns... its all the same. Its not like expectations of a Suppan replacement will be raised or lowered. The Crew are in a bad place right now, even Villanueva's 90 mph fastball look much slower than Balester's 91 mph fastball. The team is funktified.

It's probably a bad thing for the Brewers. Until that 6th inning Monday Suppan had a sub 5 ERA (oh boy!). It's tough to expect anything better from Wright or Dillard. If he goes on the DL it could force Melvin to over trade for Doug Davis or Garland.

This reeks of just putting a ineffective pitcher on the shelf. Giving younger guys a shot. If this were the NBA, this is what the Bucks do to vets to let the young guys play.

Suppan has been a nightmare. Maybe it's time just to let him go.

If we assume Soup was hurt somewhere over the course of his last two starts, his ERA was tolerable for a 4/5 starter before that point. Depsite the frustration over Soup and his contract, we have no viable replacement that is even close to him right now. That's not saying Soup is anything special, it's just our AAA guys are all well below league replacement. Whoever we bring in will be a bid step down.

I really hope this injury to suppan doesn't pressure melvin into doing something stupid.. we are screwed with or without suppan at this point and selling parts of next years team is surely not the solution. I wanna see a rotation of Gallardo, Looper, Villa, Dillard, and Parra.. i honestly think that we have a better chance at winning games with that rotation then one with suppan in it. Villa was very impressive last night until Macha left him in way after his pitch count and you could tell he needed to come out. Dillard also really impressed me with throwing good srikes showing obviously some nerves. His velocity was very inconsistant. At times his fastball only hit 87 and i also saw it top out at 93. I think stretchin out villa and letting Dillard throw is the best solution. However if DM and KM both believe that Villa belongs in the bullpen i wanna see josh butler get a chance. he has pitched well all year and he is rumored to have really good stuff so lets see it

Per Mccalcy..... Suppan has a strained oblique. The same injury that Looper and Hoffman suffered from in Spring Training where they had prolonged absences. Looks like we may be missing Suppan and Bush from the rotation for a while. The back end of our rotation is going to be even more of a mess than it is right now.

In theory, the loss of a replacement level starter should be no big deal...However, finding even replacement level starters has been difficult lately...You'd just think there would be someone who could give servicable innings, but there really doesn't seem to be...
