Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

I caught the end of Jim Rice's HOF speech, and it seemed to me like he was reading the speech, and didn't seem all that excited. Maybe that's just who he is. Now, it's time Rickey. If he starts out saying "Today....I am the greatest", that would be awesome!

Rickey's speech was excellent. I could just listen to the man talk for hours. He ripped on Reggie Jackson and had Reggie bright red! Pretty funny! And at the end, I thought he was going to bring up being the greatest, as he quoted Ali, and what he said at the end was, "Today, I am very...very....very....humble." Not the Rickey braggadocio of old, but fantastic. Very humble, and grateful. Awesome! Now they've got Stan Musial playing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". Great stuff!

He kept refering to his daughters as "daughter". Rickie really has a problem with plural items. He read his speech, that more then likely was written for him so that he would not embarrass himself. You could tell though when he went off script.

That Reggie Jackson story was funny because in '97 Rickey got traded to the Angels and his first game was in Milwaukee. I saw him a few hours before the game outside of county stadium with my brother and like 5 other people. As he was walking in I asked him for his autograph, he looked at me (I was 12 at the time) and said "Rickey doesnt sign," everyone laughed because we thought we was joking (it literally would have taken him less than 1 minute to sign an autograph for everyone) but then he laughed and just walked right in.

If I only knew he was still upset over Reggie Jackson doing the same thing to him.
