2009-07-26 Braves (Lowe) at Milwaukee (Looper) : 1:05 PM CT [Brewers lose, 10-2]

Macha is absolutely the dullest post game interview I have ever seen. I wonder if he is always like that, or just tries to remain cool, calm, and in control so he doesn't appear to be losing his mind. He hinted that Hart needs to hustle a bit more and always appeared upset at Hardy for a rather aloof play towards the end of the game.

He also kept Hart and Hardy a season too long where Hart must have no value whatsoever and Hardy's value is much lower with only one season till free agency.

Because he clearly should have predicted that in his crystal ball?

Hart was awful in the second half of 2008 so Melvin should have known to trade him for pitching while he still had value. In the case of Hardy I dont really blame Melvin for not seeing that he would be awful in 2009 but at this point his value is not very high.

Because one half of one season should have over-ridden the 2.5 seasons prior to that that he was a great player? I think that's just looking at the situation in hindsight.

Bottom line, this was another disappointing loss.

Shadows, no shadows, whatever the case may be, it isn't an excuse anymore. It just comes down to execution and getting it done, and we aren't doing that on a consistent basis.

While I'm sitting in my seat at the ballpark watching this team I had a few interesting observations. Corey Hart didn't look very good in right field today. Maybe it is just that he moves gracefully like a gazelle so it doesn't appear like he's exerting effort, but he seemed like he was moving in slow motion and a couple balls fell in front and behind him. The Jody Gerut error was just laughable. No other way to describe it. Looper had pretty poor command early and really fell apart there in the 6th.

This team to me feels a lot like the 2006 Brewers right now with the pitching and bullpen woes (or is that woahs?). I've had that feeling for a few weeks and have just been trying to sit on it and stay on the side of "the sky is not falling." The sky is definitely not falling yet, but if we don't get some guys hot and get some consistency in our rotation and bullpen, we might start to see flying projectiles sooner or later.

The sky not falling however the Brewers have many holes and in need of some Influx of talent. Hart just appears to look lost and today game he looked bad and the fans did give it to him. Looper and Suppan just can't keep the ball in the park i guess they really a need for sinkerball pitchers.

Burns Villy and Smith are not Major league Pitchers, and Gerut Error was a joke and should make melvin look for an upgrade there.

The Brewers are 1-18 in games Chris Smith makes an appearance. Confidence builder!
I'm more surprised that he has appeared in 19 games. Man, would I like the May Brewers back. Even the late May (post-Rickie) Brewers were better than this.

I was at the game and just one thing to add to what was already said: What was up with the roof? Right after the Hart homer, it starts raining a bit. Nothing heavy, but a shower. Roof stays open. 5-10 minutes later, the rains stops. Then maybe a half hour later they close the roof. Yeah it was cloudy, but it wasn't raining. As soon as the roof is closed, the sun comes out. Very odd.

Huh, we didn't detect the rain at all from our terrace box seats. We knew the forecast was for scattered showers, and when the roof closed we figured that someone must have determined a scattered shower was headed to Milwaukee.

Maybe the roof staff was just slow on the trigger today?

Do people ever consider the other teams GM and their perspective? Hart has a bad end of the season and DM is supposed to trade him when his value is low? How stupid would he look if Hart turned things around this year? Then he would have traded an All-Star RFer after he had 2 bad months.

Smith, Burns and Gerut really just need to be DFA ASAP . This bullpen is a Joke expect for Coffey,Setter and Hoffman.
Burns and Gerut - definitely.

Smith's held his own, even after today's game the OBA was .226, with the WHIP at 1.32. Not too shabby for someone usually brought in when the game's out of hand. It's better performance than the Brewers have gotten this year from McClung and Villanueva.

Hoffman, Coffey, DiFelice, and Stetter have been the mainstays this year but they have to be getting worn down.

We can keep DFA'ng guys all you want, but there are no replacements out there that will dramatically change the trajectory of this team. The Gerut error was brutal, but the guy actually had a couple hits yesterday. It's not like Duffy or Nelson were that great...although I do miss Gabe Gross. Burns is just awful, I guess that's why Dillard is getting his well deserved start on Tuesday. The Nats are probably a team even Burns could handle.

Someone mentioned this reminds them of 2006. That seemed like a complete collapse and free fall. This seems like a slow dribble towards mediocrity, with just enough glimmers of hope like Saturday night to keep us hooked. Any team with Prince, Braun and Yo will hang around for a while, but it will take more than that to make a run and I just do see it.
