2009-07-24 Braves (Vazquez) at Milwaukee (Parra) : 7:05 PM CT [Brewers lose, 9-4]

We have not won back to back games since June. Wow. The fact that we are even discussing trading our top prospects is very scary for the future of Milwaukee baseball.

With the Cards acquisitions, the Cubs and Astros heating up, and the Brewers falling flat this one has the feel of a season-ender.
Yeah, I'm usually not this negative but I was hearing "The Day The Brewers Died" ("Bye Bye, to the Miller Park fans...") in my head after this one.

Still a long way to go, but they've just been milquetoast at best since Rickie went down--just swirling downwards....

I would rather keep our proven players that are just having down years than sell them for cheap (we're not going to get anything great the way Hart, Hardy, Hall, etc. are playing). What sense does it make to trade all of our proven players for prospects that've never been on a major league field? Nobody knows how they'll pan out. There are too many busts in this game. If we can't be buyers at the deadline, then we should definitely be buyers when Free Agency begins. That way we have unwanted salary coming off the books and we have more money to spend.

The team needs to pick up pitching somehow before the 2010 season begins. The offense is fine, but could probably use another bat or two for the bench.

Down goes Polish, down goes Polish.
Actually, it was the Bratwurst who took the header. That was dramatic.

A few miscellaneous thoughts:

I wouldn't have minded seeing the Parra-Rivera battery again. It might not have changed the outcome, but it seemed to work OK the last two Parra starts (maybe better than Kendall leading off).

From our loge seats, I had the opportunity to look at Jim Powell in the visitors' radio booth. During the pregame mini-ceremony honoring Prince's HR Derby win, I believe Jim looked a little wistful.

Did anyone else at the game notice Manny angrily flinging his glove into the dugout at the end of the 4th inning? I'll bet the videoboard people wish they could take that shot back.

And Seth's elbow. That's not good. (link from McCalvy)

I can't add too much more, other than to agree that Friday's game was just extra dispiriting. As a fan, I need something to change...not sure what.

(Edited to add link about Seth's elbow, as I later realized it hadn't been posted elsewhere yet)

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I also managed to catch Parra fire his glove into the dugout. I wonder if he was mad about the questionable umpiring or that he wasn't pitching well (although he had just gotten out of a big jam). As for McClung, I was wondering why nobody went to check on him after the pitch hit the backstop. Dave Bush shouldn't have been allowed to continue in Florida and McClung got away with throwing about 5-10 more pitches than he should have. The bullpen is horrible right now. Last year if the score was 4-4 in the middle innings, I would expect it to stay close until the Brewers took the lead. The Braves didn't have a 1-2-3 inning last night and could have easily scored 12-15 runs if a few line drives weren't hit right at the outfielders.
