Melvin on WSSP

Doug Melvin was just on "The Big Show" (1250-AM); didn't say too much that would be considered new information. Sounds like he doesn't expect Bush back for 2-3 weeks.

* Thinks we have plenty of offense, just needs to be more consistent

* No further details of talks with Toronto

I just recapped it over at Ramblings, you can click on the link below. Doug hints that no SP's are moving because teams are asking way too much. Casey "may need surgery", by the way.

His reasoning behind looking for a reliever is just what I said a few days ago...as is, they need to cover 3-4 innings most every night, and they have to watch the workload of the current bullpen guys.

Between the lines, the guys who have pitched the most, CV and McClung, are the two currently struggling (my words, not Doug's)

I heard this, and actually there were a couple other things:

- Says McGehee will need surgery after the season.

- Said he has been looking at relievers, simply because "there's no starting pitching available."

I agree with SoCal BCF -- Gamel will probably be back soon. And if the context of the Lopez acquisition was that Casey might need to be shut down at some point this season, then my vote on that trade changes from "unnecessary" to "well-played, Melvin". Viva la Gamel!
