After Tim Dillard pitches tonight, you almost are left with four clones in the Nashville rotation -- lefties Chase Wright and Chris Narveson (soft-tossing), Chris Cody (softer) and Lindsay Gulin (softest). That's not questioning their abilities or in Wright and Cody's case, their promise, but an opponent sure could get used to the pitching basics each offers.

Our always imformative and entertaining draft guru colbyjack will be taking you through the next two evenings of Link Report updates. Enjoy the different perspective for a bit. Thanks, my friend.

Sorry I've let home and employment interfere with the timing of the Report the past couple of days. Shame on me! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Link Report Bonus:

In the recent Zach Braddock thread, there was a side discussion that is basically about the number of Minor League fans who might keep up with the daily news in the system.

If we can believe Yuku's thread count totals, which appear to register whether you're logged in or not, let's say the Link Report gets 1,200 page views on average a day. There are certainly a large portion of readers (I prefer "diehards" to "get-a-lifers" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif) who will check it both early, in-between and late, so let's say that knocks it down to 400-700 actual distinct viewers.

Even if it's on the low end of 400 unique individuals checking it out each and every day (I prefer to think it might be closer to 500-600), most of whom don't actually post here, we consider that a pretty solid number of fans. And considering how many family and friends of ballplayers, folks in the media, and members of the Brewers front office we've heard from who enjoy reading the media reports, quotes, and miscellaneous fan comments, that suits us just fine. Kind of like a service we provide that also is a labor of love of sorts. Heck, believe it or not, we recently passed the eight-year anniversary of Link Reports (mid-2001).

We started archiving Link Reports in 2003. Back then, we just jumped in as the games ended and the Daily Menu actually appeared at the tail end of the Report, setting up the next evening. We were able to paste in actual box scores back in those days, too. And since most of the links are dead, you now know why we currently include the text while still citing and linking to the source whenever possible.

Here's the oldest archived Link Report -- the Smithsonian has it on parchment...

Nashville postponed, makeup details later on. Let's see, Wisconsin's off, colbyjack's got it made...

I'm online watching the Crew tonight, so let me help him out with the obscure DSL report anyway.

Final: DSL Brewers / Orioles 11, DSL Cubs # 2 Squad 8

DSL Brewers / Orioles Box Score

The boys won despite walking 15 batters; Brewer pitchers Rolando Pascual, Jamie King, and Eliezer Montano combined to both walk and strike out 11 over the final eight innings, with Montano stranding an inherited runner and working 2.2 scoreless; catcher Jhonatan Javier (22 in September) is just a beast -- three-run home run, triple and walk (OPS still a touch over 1.000); LF Juan Barrini singled, SS Andres Martinez 0-for-4; the 5th outfield error for the 17-year-old Barrini; will Javier stick at catcher? -- 5th error and 8th passed ball here...

DSL Brewers / Orioles Game Log

Finally -- a DSL attendance count!

Att: 1.

OK, I'm out...

Final: Jupiter 1, Brevard County 5

Brevard County Box Score

As noted above, Logan Schafer's 4th inning grand slam is the big hit in this one. Schafer is enjoying a fine July after a ho-hum June, and overall this season he is much improved in the plate discipline department, as he's walking more and whiffing less than he was during his pro debut last year. Eric Farris swipes his 42nd bag of the year, and Amaury Rivas has another outing that gives him a case for one of the organization's top 5-7 pitching prospects. Omar Aguilar's time with the 'Tees may not last much longer the way he has been pitching.

Brevard County Game Log

Plenty of short innings for Jupiter in this one, always a pleasant sight.

Jones with 9Ks out of nowhere, that's good to see. Cain with his first AA hit as well, batting lead-off.

Details of the makeup game between Nashville and Memphis:

Tuesday's game a wash

MEMPHIS, Tenn. The rain got the best of Tuesday night's game, which was scheduled to feature the Memphis Redbirds (47-47) and the Nashville Sounds (53-42).

Showers began around 2:00 P.M. in downtown Memphis and never let up, preventing batting practice and regular team warm-ups. The game went into a delayed start at 7:05 and stood in hiatus for just over an hour before being called.

Tuesday's game will be made-up Wednesday as a part of AutoZone Park's third double-header of the season. The first game will begin at 6:00 P.M. as Memphis' Blake Hawksworth battles against Nashville's Tim Dillard. Game two will follow a thirty-minute break between games and feature southpaws Evan MacLane and Chris Cody for Memphis and Nashville respectively. Gates will open at 5:30 P.M. for Wednesday's doubleheader.

Fans who purchased tickets for Tuesday's rainout may exchange them at the box office for tickets to any other remaining Redbirds game at AutoZone Park this season.

Final: Carolina 4, Huntsville 3

Huntsville Site Game Summary

Mudcats Square Season Series at Three Apiece

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Todd Frazier hit the game-winning home run in the eighth inning to power Carolina past Huntsville 4-3 Tuesday night in the opener of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium that was delayed by 70 minutes at the outset due to rain. The Mudcats won their third straight to improve to 10-16 in the second half and 47-48 overall, while the Stars slipped to 11-15 in the second half and 49-46 overall. The Stars fell to 18-23 at home and played in a one-run game for a fourth time in six days, dropping three of them.

Juan Francisco's run-scoring single in the first inning, three pitches into the game, got the scoring started but the Stars countered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Drew Anderson run-scoring double and a throwing error by shortstop Zach Cozart that allowed Anderson to score.

The visitors tied the game in the second inning on a home run by Stephen Chapman, who was drafted and signed by the Brewers and spent the first five years of his career with them. Sean Henry reached to open the third on an Anderson fielding error and scored on a Mike Jones wild pitch to put Carolina back in the lead.

Jones worked out of a runners at first and third and nobody out jam in the top half of the fourth before Vinny Rottino's lead off long ball in the bottom of the inning got the game tied. It was his fourth of the season and first since June 7 at West Tenn. Mudcats' starter Lee Tabor was taken out after five frames, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits, while walking two and striking out one. Sean Watson took over and retired the side in order in the sixth and then set down Anderson and Jonathan Lucroy to end the seventh with two runners on base to earn his third win of the season.

Jones was lifted in a 3-3 game after six innings, allowing six hits, walking one and fanning a season-high nine. He has gone at least six innings in five of his nine starts with the Stars. Casey Baron worked a scoreless seventh inning before Frazier, who had struck out twice and flied out, belted a 2-2 pitch over the wall just to the right of straightaway center field for his 11th home run of the season leading off the decisive frame. Phillippe Valiquette worked a shutout eighth inning and Logan Ondrusek tossed a perfect ninth to record his sixth save.

The series continues Wednesday night with left-hander Sam Narron taking the hill for the Stars against Mudcats' right-hander Matthew Klinker. Coverage of the game begins at 6:45 pm central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

As noted above, it sure is nice to see Lorenzo Cain, Jonathan Lucroy and Taylor Green all in the same box score, even if it is a few months late, but that trio went 1-for-12 with a walk. Mike Jones goes deep in yet another start, and is following up a tough June with a stellar July. I remember when he was one of the Southern League's top prospects many years ago, and hopefully he rewards the Brewers' patience with him some day at the big league level. Casey Baron, who now has given up a pair of runs in his last two outings, takes the loss despite having an otherwise impressive season while seemingly being groomed as the next Mitch Stetter.

Huntsville Game Log

A solo home run to lead off the top of the 8th by Reds' top prospect Todd Frazier is the difference in this one. Overall it's a relatively clean game, and as noted above, it's hard to pin this one on Baron given his efforts not only in this game working out of a potential jam in the seventh, but all year long.

Final: Helena 8, Casper 4

Helena Box Score

Chris Ellington hits a two-run homer with two outs in the first, slowly but surely putting his name among the countless number of Brewers college draftees that have put up impressive numbers in the Pioneer League. Josh Prince draws his league-leading 23rd walk. Eric Arnett goes three scoreless, which may lead some to believe that he can only start games given his goofy splits as a piggy-backer. Closer Michael Fiers records his league-leading sixth save, seeing his ERA drop below 2.00 while improving his K:BB ratio to 19:1 in 13.2 innings of work.

Helena Game Log

The H-Crew does a really nice job manufacturing some insurance runs in the top of the ninth after Casper made this game too close for comfort in the mid-to-late innings.

Final: AZL Giants 3, AZL Brewers 5

Arizona Box Score

I don't think I have ever handled Link Report duties and saw the Baby Brewers win http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. That may be a stretch, but these aren't your college roommates' Arizona Brewers. Draft-day fave Max Walla goes 2-4 with a two-run triple. I know we were all surprised by his initial placement, and I know we're also all surprised by how much he has struggled to produce. Tyler Cravy was dealing before the fifth inning, and still finished with eight Ks in five innings. Blake Billings followed him with a much-needed solid outing.

Arizona Game Log

Interesting fifth for Cravy, who allows a leadoff double before striking out the next two batters, then gives up three runs before finishing the inning with another K.

Jones with 9Ks out of nowhere, that's good to see. Cain with his first AA hit as well, batting lead-off.
I was just going to post that he has been on a nice little run lately. In his last three starts he has 19 innings, 17 hits, 5 ER (2.37 ERA), 2 BB, and 19 K. Might give Rogers a run for his money for comeback player of the year. Here's to hoping he continues this trend.

Also interesting to note that that Jones has been very efficient with pitches lately. He's been going 6+ innings with pitch counts in good enough shape that he could have gone at least one more inning. Heck, even before all his arm injuries he wasn't racking up the strikeouts, so this is impressive. Besides that one bad stretch maybe 6 weeks ago, his command has been great this year.

This and that, including my thanks to colbyjack:

Don Money sending a message? Brendan Katin not your prototypical # 8 hitter, in a game with no DH even -- yikes.

Trying to acknowledge pro debuts this season, and LHP Donald Brandt gets the win in relief for Helena despite an outing with some rough edges.

Stars' second baseman Shane Justis isn't ancient at 26, and he lifted his OBP to .382 and his OPS to .816, reaching four times in five trips. A Rule 5 minor league phase pickup, the Brewers still own Justis' rights for two more seasons.

Attendance = 1 at the Maryvale game as well. That disappoints me, because along with the DSL listing, wondering if that's a technical notation now.
