UFC 100

phxMILWfan

Will anyone be watching UFC 100 Saturday night? If you're at all interested in what MMA is about this is the fight to watch. I've been following the UFC for about 3 years and this is by far the best fight card ever assembled in my opinion. It should be well worth the 50 bucks for pay per view or if you're going out it's worth finding a bar that will have it on. Spike will also be running a marathon covering the top 100 UFC fights of all time during the day.

Here's a link to who's fighting. http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=eventdetail.fightCard&eid=2016

That said, any UFC fans that want to make predictions?

I think that of the fights we know will be aired it will go down like this.

Mir over Lesnar
Alves in a big upset over GSP
Fitch over Thiago
Bisping upsets Henderson
Akiyama over Belcher although I have to admit I have no clue because I can't remember seeing either fighter before.

Should be a great night!

I just can't get into UFC anymore. I started watching about...a hundred shows ago, back when there were no weight divisions, and they had actual, bracketed tournaments, with guys fighting multiple times during the course of the PPV.

I really enjoyed the first 4-5, when it all felt new. If I can't see a 180 pound shoot-fighter squaring off against a sumo wrestler....what's the point?

I think Bisping out-boxes Hendo and wins a decision.

I think GSP annihilates Alves.

Lesnar/Mir...........it's gonna be like this.......either Lesnar KO/TKO's Mir in the first 3 minutes, or Mir wins by submission in the 2nd or 3rd.

i'm getting it, i'm predictiong

Lesnar over Mir

St Pierre over Alves

Fitch over Thiago

Henderson over Bisping

I agree with your assesment of the main even roco.

Hopefully the brewers game is over by 9, should make for a long and awesome night of being a couch potato.

Considering Mir was barely able to survive Lesnar with no octagon experience I'd be hard pressed to be against a guy who has the best power speed fighting raw talent I've seen after he's had more experience.

I'm picking Lesnar over Mir. The dude just seems brutal, and like Igor pointed out, he's a much different fighter than the first time they fought.

Having said that, I'd love to see Fedor fight any of UFCs top heavyweights right now. I gotta believe that Fedor would just destroy everyone.

Unfortunately, I'll be at a wedding Saturday night.

I've only ever seen a snippet here or there of Fedor, so I just don't have any good sense of how strong a fighter he is. I do wonder though if given a bit more seasoning Lesnar could give him a good challenge.

I haven't seen much of Fedor either, just clips here and there. I really think Lesnar or Mir could beat him. I'm not saying definitely or 10 out of 10 times. But they could beat him. If Lesnar comes out and destroys Mir I think Lesnar goes years and years without being beaten.

There is a lot of Fedor footage on Youtube. It really is impressive to watch, because time and time again you'll think he's in trouble, and he'll find a way to win. He's as cool and calculating of a fighter as I think you'll find in the sport. Not intimidated by any size or specific technique. Goes in and does his thing and gets out...

I agree with you on Lesnar, though, if he dominates Mir, he'll be tough to beat for quite some time...

Fedor's tough to figure. He hasn't faced top notch competition for a long time. Tim Sylvia and Andre Arlovski don't count.

At the height of Pride, one would have had absolutely no problem calling him the best heavyweight in the world, but at this point, it's hard to say, because he's darn near playing in the minor leagues.

I want Lesnar to win, but I think he is going to make a dumb mistake and Mir will capitalize. I think people are underestimating Mir's striking ability. Remember, Mir stopped the much bigger Antonio Nogueira last year.

I also hope Henderson destroys Bisping and shuts him up. I think GSP will win as well.

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of MMA but I've been a fan of Brock since he started out in the WWF. He proved his doubters wrong and now all they'll do is talk about how classless and unsportsmanlike he is and was. He's a great showman and knows how to play the crowd. I doubt Dana White is discouraging what he's doing.(besides knocking on their sponsors lol) He'll bring in the ratings and everybody will benefit from it. I don't understand the notion that Brock Lesnar somehow cheapens the sport or sets it back. He is that good. I thought that punch to the head on the ground after the KO earlier in the night(by Dan Henderson I think?) contributed more to the illegitimate "human-cockfighting" image that MMA is trying to distance itself from than anything else.

Any ideas who a good match would be for Lesnar at this point? I would think a bulky striker of some kind who has a solid takedown defense might give an interesting fight.
Shane Carwin or Cain Velazquez. They're probably the best young "up and comers" in the UFC right now, but I don't think either of them can stop Lesnar's takedowns.

From Dan Wetzel's column this morning. Unless he shocks the world and loses to Josh Barnett, I think this is what has to happen:

Shane Carwin? Cain Velasquez? Mir in a final chapter of a trilogy of fights? No doubt they'll get a chance, and no doubt they stand a chance.

The greatest beneficiary of each Lesnar snarl, however, lives in Stary Oskol, Russia, a man named Fedor Emelianenko who is considered the No. 1 heavyweight (if not pound-for-pound fighter) in the world. If anyone has the knockout power to stop the 6-3, 265-pound Lesnar, it's Emelianenko.

Fedor doesn't fight in the UFC though. He's with its rival promotion, Affliction. He'll fight Aug. 1 in Anaheim, Calif., in what is the last match of his contract. Affliction is hoping to re-sign him until 2012, but the UFC will come hard after him. More now then ever. And that means money, big money.

"Eventually Fedor is going to be here," White said. "I want Fedor. We'll end up getting that deal done and then we'll do Brock vs. Fedor and we'll do a huge fight."

Fedor would dominate Lesner.

Wrong. He might win by submission, but NO ONE in the world can "dominate" Lesnar. He's too big, strong and athletic to be dominated. He's also a really skilled wrestler not just a big dude, as he continues to learn submission and bjj defense he's only going to get tougher. It might take a while for him to lose.

Agreed that Lesnar may lost, but won't be dominated by anyone. Carwin is probably his biggest threat within the promotion. Velasquez may be if he can grow in his next fights. Carwin is Lesnar without the hype and wrestling background. That guy is terrifying.

Lesnar is 4-1. He lost to Mir. I've been following Carwin a little bit and I thought he was destined to be heavy weight champ or atleast challenge for it. However, he is still working a part time job and lives an hour from his camp so he can be near his kid(s). Unless he commits to doing MMA full time with out the distraction of working a job I can't see him beating Lesnar.

How about the ridiculous scoring of the first fight televised? Theres no way Belcher lost to Akiyama. That was really disappointing considering this was probably the first fight some people have watched and that confusing outcome could turn some people away. That said, it was a very entertaining fight.

Henderson with a huge knockout of Bisping. I like both fighters but I was also disappointed in Henderson's comment that he knew Bisping was out but he hit him again anyway to shut him up. If he would have said "yeah I thought he was out but you just have to go until the referee stops you." I don't fault the guy then. This was a great opportunity for the UFC to gain more fans and Hendersons comments did nothing to help the image of "human $*$%-fighting".

I wanted to see GSP lose after "grease gate" but you can't deny this guys talent. Unbelievable that he fought the last 2 rounds with a pulled groin and still dominated Alves. I give him a lot of credit. I don't like him but he is definitely in the top 2 for pound for pound fighters. I really hope we get to see him fight Anderson Silva. From the post fight interview it sounds like he would like to do that. I think that fight may be about a year away. Silva has his fight with Forrest Griffin next month and then if he wins he will most likely fight Dan Henderson again. If he wins that fight he should definitely be fighting GSP.

Lesnar's dominance of the fight was incredible. I can't see anyone other than the previously mentioned potential of Fedor beating him. I'm not sure if he is that big of a jerk or if that is what he is doing to get people to buy the pay per views because everyone wants to see him beat. I'd bet good money that he is just that much of a jerk. How can that guys wife be with him? What a disgusting guy.

Not sure the fight matched the hype but it was still entertaining. I just wish they would have thrown in an under card fight or two. I paid 55 bucks, would it have killed Dana to include another fight? Why was Fitch after the headline fight? How many people were interested in that fight following Lesnar-Mir? It would have been better off as the 2nd televised fight of the night.

They had to bump the Fitch fight til last to make sure the Main Event ran in the alloted time. The last thing they wanted was to see the main event get cut short due to time restraint. Undercard fights aren't going to get shown if there's not enough time. I'll take 5 great main card fights over 5 crappy fights and 2-3 undercard fights any day.

phx, just to address your "greasegate" comments about St. Pierre/Penn fight. I might have been tempted to see Penn's side of it, had he not whined like a $$@*% for weeks and weeks after the fight. And then his mom saying "I was worried my baby was going to die".

GSP is hands down one of the classiest, respectful, and respected guys in the sport. I truly believe if he was greased, it was coincidental/accidental. Penn is nothing but a crybaby, and proved it with the way he handled himself after getting completely destroyed the 2nd time they fought.

For what it's worth, I've had the chance to meet GSP, so my opinion may be a little biased. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Unless White cheaps out you've got to figure that at this point he could easily out bid Affliction right? The pay per views have some serious momentum in a tough economy. Multiple gate draws in different divisions. Unless Fedor decides he likes the crown without the threat.
