Are the D-Backs crazy? Make offer to NYY for Unit.

In need of starting pitching -- and a marquee name that will draw more fans -- the Diamondbacks have offered a package of at least three players, including a major-leaguer. They would also want a 72-hour window to negotiate an extension with Johnson, who is owed $16 million in the final year of his contract. The Yankees, according to the official, don't want to pick up any of Johnson's salary.

3 players, one a major leager and which makes the other two prospects, paying ALL of his salary AND negotating an extension!!!! The guy is 43 years old!! It isn't coincidence that a 43 year old put a 5.00 ERA last year. Johnson stinks and he isn't going to start smelling better magically. The D-Backs are crazy.

I could see why a team in the NL would think a one year deal for Johnson would be a decent investment/risk, but to negotiate an extension makes no sense. He probably wouldn't cost a ton to acquire, and I think he might be able to have a 4.00 ERA, or something in the NL West.

He's regressing for sure but most of last year was a result of poor defense and bad luck. He's certainly breaking down physically though and in games where his back hurts he tends to get shelled. Its certainly a risky move but I think calling him trash is overdoing it a bit.

Randy Johnson could get the ultimate treatment in Zona. Sleep on his own bed only have to travel when he will pitch on the road I would imagine. Randy Johnson to me seems like the kind of guy that could pitch till he is 47 years old as a closer and I think a move to the BP would be easier on his back. Maybe this is what Zona is thinking. I cant imagine trying to hit a fresh Randy Johnson in the 9th Inning.
