Alex Rios- Now definitely in play

Quote:
Brewers sign Jeff Suppan

then

Brewers could offer

Chris Capuano

for

Alex Rios

or

JJ Hardy

Carlos Villenueva

(B prospect 8-15 range)

for

Alex Rios

Aren't we talking about adding Suppan to get more depth? This would just take it away again.

clearly superior? kinda funny that you say clearly when you qualify your statement with "IMO" and "with an unbiased eye"

Rios may be better now, but the difference is pretty minimal...BTW, Corey Hart will prove to be an above average defensive player in his career...

and he's already with the team...i dont think you should ever trade for a player who might be just a slight bit better than what you've already got...some think the grass is greaner...others, eric young...i say we are pretty good already..

Pogo, regardless of what they did at the minor league level, Rios put together a fine season at the major league level in 2006 (and it could have been even better if he would have stayed healthy for the full season), something Hart has not done yet. I like Corey and I think he deserves to start in 2007, but until he plays a full season he is still a prospect. From March to June, Rios was incredible and he finished very strong too once he came back from his injury (.OPS of 977). You can argue that he struggled in July and August but he was coming back from an injury and sometimes that takes awhile to return to form.

If we could get Rios without giving away the whole team, I would be all for it. An outfield of Hart, Hall, and Rios could be very productive.

Rios may be slightly more established, but Hart is a year younger and put up better offensive numbers that Rios and was a level higher each year at the same age. Hart also steals more bases. Defensively the edge does go to Rios though.

You could do this same comparison with Bill Halls minor league stats and 6 dozen other players who all outperformed him in the minor. Those players couldn't even begin to compare to Hall now.

Hart is a good player, with good ability, but he simply doesn't have the awestriking batspeed of Rios.Thats why Rios has always been considered an elite prospect.

and Hart's already with the team...i dont think you should ever trade for a player who might be just a slight bit better than what you've already got

Is Hart being considered for the CF job? Has there been a rule change on the number of starting OFs allowed?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif This isn't an either or proposition, and we're not trading Hart to get Rios. I want Rios to start next to Hart.

Toronto is dealing Rios because they have a surplus in the OF, and Rios has the most value. They have Wells in CF, underrated Reed johnson in RF, and Riccardi favorite prospect Adam lind in LF. They also have a quality reserve in Matt Stairs. Johnson is the backup CF. Toronto needs pitching and a longterm answer at SS. The Brewers have an extra SS, already have pretty good pitching even before adding Suppan. The Brewers offense, however, finished just 14th in Runs Scored and 15th in OPS, and that was inspite of having Carlos Lee carrying a 897 OPS for 2/3s of the season with the team.

If they're creative, these teams are a match.

From what I gathered, Adam Lind was being looked at as a future DH, as his defense is Billy Butler-like. Nevertheless, after this holiday's gift, we are now in a position to package a corner OF (Mench) and/or Hardy, with CV the Younger or Elder, and perhaps reap the rewards of Rios.

I would be very excited to add Rios to our team. But this year just isn't a match.

I think it would take Hardy and Bush to get him. Not to mention that Hardy's value is down because of injury.

Now, assuming our young pitchers continue to grow...

Hardy has a really good year...

We find an adaquate replacement at SS...

Then MAYBE next year we could make a play for Rios. I just don't see us in position for such a move right now.
