Brewers Free Up 40-Man Roster Spot -- 1B Joe Koshansky Outrighted to Nashville

Let any speculation begin -- call-up not on the 40-man roster previously? Acquisition via trade?

The Brewers freed up a 40-man roster spot today by outrighting first baseman Joe Koshansky to AAA Nashville. The Brewers had claimed Koshansky on waivers from Texas this spring -- the Rangers owned him for a few days after claiming him from the Rockies, where he posted fine career numbers in the high air of the PCL and other Rockie affiliates.

Sorry for the dumb question but I'm confused what it means to be outrighted to Nashville, I thought he was in Nashville. Was he just removed from the 40 but is still in Nashville? By being removed does that mean he has to clear waivers to stay there?

Either way, interesting timing to be clearing a 40 man spot the day after an off day. There has to be a reason..right?

It might just be that Koshansky is having the worst season of his minor league career and there's no good reason for him to be on the 40-man at this point.

Cody pitched yesterday, so he wouldn't be available to pitch again until Saturday. Chase Wright has been ok, I guess.

I'd like it if Heether were called up, but unless the corollary move is sending down Gamel, it's not going to happen, and doesn't do anything to answer who our next starting pitcher is.

Edit: Nevermind, Wright was just put on the AAA DL. Nick Green replaced him on the AAA roster. Green is coming off some shoulder problems - would they want him in the big league rotation a few starts removed from being shut down for more than a month? Probably not.

Yep. Nothing really changes except for the bookkeeping. He would have had to clear irrevocable waivers to be outrighted.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Josh Butler is on the DL with an intercostal sprain... he'll be out at least another few weeks. Tough luck timing, to be sure.

Ooops, my bad. Man, you guys who keep up on all the minors stuff ... Great job. I thought I was relatively on top of things, I really had no idea.

If Cody is available to start Saturday, it could be him, coming up to fill the spot left vacant by McClung getting pulled from the rotation for one start, then bringing Parra back fresh after the ASB and one more Minor league start.

Yeah, Dillard is on the 40 man. I don't think it's Heether, since that would mean that Gamel is getting sent down and if that were to happen it likely would have happened during the off day yesterday. My guess is there's a trade right now or they're preparing for one in the coming weeks and keeping a spot open since there's really no good reason to have Koshansky on the 40 man.

I'd be shocked if we pulled off a major deal without moving one of the young AAA players who's on the 40 man roster, or more to the point Salome specifically. It stinks that Aguilar, Periard, Rogers, and Scarpetta all need 40 man spots, while none are all that close to the majors today. It's also too bad we lost a year of Periard due to visa issues.

If you were going to send Gamel down, wouldn't you just The Hurricane to replace him. Mcgehee will pretty much play everyday at 3rd, so you would only need a UTL guy up then to cover the middle.
