I don't think it's fair to say the Higuera deal lead to the loss of Molitor. If prior deals led to his exit, put it on the trifecta of Higuera, Robinson and Stubbs....quite an impressive run for Mr Dalton at the time.
The thread is old and the Suppan discussion has moved to a better place. But I had to mention this.

 

Much more than any of the bad contracts, the two collusion rulings hurt the Brewers more than anything else before the 1994-95 work stoppage. Besides sending salaries spiraling to new highs, those huge payouts caused the franchise to be in significant debt for the first time in its history.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
