Toronto makes a great trade partner again

aracko

We know Doug Melvin loves dealing with Toronto. I Look at the counsell signing and definatly think something is up. Of all the teams most desperate for a SS, I think Toronto tops the list. They were going to move Russ Adams to short if they got Adam Kennedy and that fell through. They want to win now and are stuck with Royce Clayton as their starting SS as a result of missing Kennedy.

We know from last year that Doug like McGowan. He doesnt seem to really be in the plans this year too much in Toronto.

hardy for McGowan?

Hall + Jenkins for Glaus+McGowan?

Hall and Clark for Vernon Wells?

I really dont know - I think I am just really bothered by the makeup of this roster and am convinced that something bigger is in the works. I think Toronto and Milwaukee have had dealings in the past and would not hesitate again. Both teams have holes to fill - with Torontos SS hole being a huge one. Troy would be that 10 million dollar bat in the middle of the order (exactly 10 mill).

None of these deals make any sense for us. Hardy is younger than McGowan and has at least a LITTLE bit of success in the majors, can't say that about McGowan.

I wouldn't trade Hall for Glaus and McGowan and we have to add Jenkins too? Glaus is 4 years older than Hall and Hall's OPS is 30 points higher.

The last deal is terrible too. Just fill one hole to make another. Add that to the fact that we would have to give Wells a TON of money or risk having him walk at the end of the year.

I love the Bill Hall and Clark for Vernon Wells. Now that Craig Counsell is here Hall is expendable..because for his good you cant trot him out to LF.

This man is a SS. I would not settle for anything less if I am his agent or Bill Hall himself. JJ Hardy is the one who they should move not Hall.

But you know how Milwaukee works...they will move the guy they should keep.

Back ass awkards.

Make what hole? What the hell are you talkin about!?

The Hall and Jenkins deal for Wells is awesome. It does not create a hole!

Hall's hole is gone when they bring in Counsell! He is not an OF anyways.

They can move him...along with Jenkins just to get rid of Jenkins.

They have to pay others down the road and they have evidently chose to diss Hall for JJ...so move him.

Aren't we always talking about how we need power here? So we trade Hall who hit 35 HR's for Wells who hit 32 AND is a free agent after the season.

That sounds like filling the CF hole and creating a hole wherever Hall would play.

Yeah I love this lineup.

Weeks

Hardy

Fielder

Wells

Koskie

Hart

Jenkins

Estrada

Compared to

Weeks

Hardy

Fielder

Hall

Koskie

Hart

Jenkins

Estrada

Does that make the Brewers any BETTER? No what it does is creates a hell of a problem if you pay $17 million to Wells or have him leave via free agency. So if he leaves we would've traded Hall for draft picks. What a smart move that would be.

Now Glaus has a full no trade clause for the remainder of his contract so let's just forget about that trade.

And Hardy for McGowan doesn't make sense either. McGowan has had mediocre numbers in the minors and is OLDER than Hardy.

I would not trade Bill Hall at all. He's the Brewers' franchise player at this point, at least on offense.

I'm leaning that way myself...I wouldn't trade Hall for Wells or Crawford, so who is available that's worth hall?

we've needed .900 OPS guys for a few years, and Hall is right there---and cheap---and ours---for three more years...i dwouldn't trade hall for anything less than Miggy Cabrera or David Wright---and I'd have to think about those guys...Hall as an infielder is in the same league as those guys, so why do we want to trade him?

The only proposed deal i'd think about is Jake Peavy, and honestly, I think the Pads would have to kick in a pretty good prsopect with him to make up for the fact that peavy will be a free agent sooner...

I would deal Hardy and Jenkins for Wells. Whether that's enough, who knows. The Jays need help in starting pitching too.

Sure losing Hardy would hurt, but the Brewers control Hall for 3 more years. Besides lurking is the Cuban SS, Perez. Now it remains to be seen if he's as good as advertised, but if he is, that would alleviate loss of Hardy and allow Hall eventually to move to OF.

While I like to see them re-sign Wells, one of two things will happen. Wells will help turn them into realistic playoff contenders or in July, teams will be beating down the door trying to acquire him for their playoff runs.

But with the tenor of this offseason so far I don't hold out too much hope. On the surface at least, management is putting a lot of confidence in Hardy and in my mind disrespecting the job Hall did last year at short. I hope it's a smokescreen but I am losing faith fast.

IMHO Hall, Weeks, and Fielder are the only untouchables on this team.

A year ago I would not have said that about Hall, but he has proven to me that he is the real deal.

I have no problem with Hall in the Outfield, I would like to See Hall, Hart, and Wells - but I don't think I would be willing to give up what it would take to get Wells. I think it would require Hall, Weeks or Fielder.

I have no problem with Counsell or Hardy at SS. I think they are probably both defensive upgrades to Hall, even though he really raised the bar last season.

I love Koskie at 3b. I think his injury is what really killed this team last season.

I would not have a problem with an OF of Hall, Hart (one plays CF) and a Jenkins or Gross / Clark platoon.

Same here. This is all implied about Hall moving, Stewert was an internet rumor, so that's false. I don't understand why we always want to trade our best player. Sexson and Lee and Overbay made sense, but Hall is Brewers property until 2009, so why move him, that makes no sense at all.

  • 4 weeks later...

If you trade JJ, you don't trade Bill Hall. Hall and Clark for

Wells is probably the best trade of the group. Would I do

it? Probably not, I like Hall. However, I do agree that

trading Hall and Clark wouldn't create an opening. JJ would

play SS, Wells would play LF or CF. Clark is a backup.

you guys have got to be joking.. umm Wells just signed a huge contract with Toronto.. now why on earth would they trade him??.. much less a Hardy and Jenkins for Wells one hahahah, like they would do that one

and why would we trade Hall who just hit 30plus homers for an aging Glaus with a bad BA.. jez

Even if most of this thread came before Wells signed his new deal, now that he signed for that much money means anyone who thought he could be had for Hall and Clark is so far displaced from reality. I thought it was pretty clear that offer would have gotten the Brewers laughed at long before the contract.

Why would we trade Hall for someone who is much less versatile, much more expensive and older... not to mention arguably worse??
