Kevin Correia

The Padres dealing of the relatively cheap veteran Scott Hairston indicates a strategy of them taking advantage of a guy who's been around that's having an above average year.

Might they be willing to do the same for Kevin Correia?

Correia's put up a 1.28 WHIP in 16 starts this year and could be a decent stopgap in the Brewer rotation.

Considering Davis has a sub 4 career ERA in the NL, I'd sure prefer him. Correia has never had any success until this year, and could well be a product of Petco, though his away stats are about equal, anything is possible in 6 starts.

I disagree that Correia has never had any success. He was pretty good in SF in 06 and 07 though mostly in relief (ERA under 3.50 both years). His success this year isn't all that surprising. While Davis might be better, it's likely the D-Backs would ask for more than Padres would and Correia isn't eligible for FA until 2011.

The fact Davis is a FA is a good thing to me, as I don't mind working pitching especially on one year deals. And yes, he has had good numbers in the bullpen, but RP to SP conversions, after say 25, are few and far between...they happen (Looper), but are a lot like sub 6 foot RHSP...they exist, but not often.
