Paul Maholm Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Blindcheck, what do you mean? Edwin Jackson was among the game's top prospects, throwing 98 mph. He had shoulder issues and came back. By last post-season w/the Rays he was hitting 98 again. At that point, many of us had him pegged as a breakout player for '09.

I think Maholm has never thrown anywhere near that hard or been that highly rated

Maholm has shown some huge starts for a team that probably put up 3 runs of support on average from him. He was also very good last year indicating he wan't just lucky.

Besides a couple of bad starts I believe the others were quality starts and this is a former first rounder with some upside still.

I don't mean to be snarky, but the first thought I had upon reading yoshii8's post was, "who wouldn't Pittsburgh trade?" Their M.O. just befuddles me sometimes, and actually makes me feel bad for their fans - though maybe not the foul-mouthed guys on that one Pirates board.

Another interesting, if somewhat snarky, thought: what Brewer would I want to see traded to Pittsburgh? Does any Brewer deserve that fate?

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

i've actually been thinking that it would be kinda nice for the brewers to go after him or tom gorzalanny(sp?) i think if we put together a package of maybe 2 or 3 prospects it might work out. the pirates farm system and could use a boost. maybe trey watten or cody adams and brenden katin. how much trade value does katin have anymore? havent heard much of him lately.

PIT is close to being right in the race...their new regime is trading the old and getting young, cheap players in return. They might only be a year away, but more likely two. I have not heard a word about Maholm being available, as they are mostly dealing free agents to be and guys that are overvalued (Capps, the mythical "proven closer").

Katin's having a great year, but he's just too old to be a tier-one or two prospect. He missed the window where he really would have had some great trade value.

The reason I say Maholm is because he's a lefty, and if Gamel and Escobar are truly off the table, then we'd have to look for a guy like that instead of a higher profile pitcher.

I would way rather take a stab at Maholm, who may still have some upside than a guy like Washburn.
