There has been some awful, awful defense in this game so far. Hopefully Looper can continue the trend of picking up his teammates.

Wasn't expecting a shutout. If Looper can get through 5 with the Brewers still winning by 4 or 5, I'll be pretty happy.

Nice to see McGehee make up for another error with a slick start to the double play.

Great job standing in there by Counsell to turn the double play, that is how it is supposed to be done.

Between that bad throw by McGehee and the bad base running by Cameron we will probably need 10+ runs to win today. Just seems like things could turn for the worse at any moment.

Totally agreed. This one just has 9th inning Cubs walkoff written all over it. I hope I'm wrong.

It's amazing that everyone on NSBB insists that Soriano is a great outfielder.
Wasn't there a debate on BF.net about whether or not Braun was better than Soriano in LF? I seem to remember it and I seem to remember my mind being boggled.
Well Braun isn't a good defender in LF either, but he's averagish, so he's better than Soriano. Last Saturday night he looked horrible out there, just about every ball SF hit at him turned him around, and there were a couple of times I wasn't sure he was going to get to it off the bat. Thank goodness he has plus speed.

If he ever ends up in CF we're in trouble because he isn't getting any better reads off the bat in the OF than he did at 3B, he just has more time in the OF to use his natural gifts and recover.

Wasn't McGehee regarded as a good defender? I'm still waiting to see that.
I was under the impression he was just average, I'm not sure where I got that from though now that I think about it. Maybe it was something said during a ST broadcast? I can't quite put my finger on it.

He was supposed to be above average at 3B and his defense was his likely ticket to the majors not the offense. That according to Baseballprospectus and minor league plus/minus numbers.

Re: McGehee's defense.

Total Zone had him as exactly average last year... -2 at home and +2 on the road. He was +1 in 2007 at AAA and 0 again at AA. He was +5 in 2006, and +16 in 2005.

I heard BA say during the broadcast that he was an excellent defender and I was surprised by the comment as well.

McGehee's getting about a series' worth of production in this game...it's about time after it seemed like he was playing a bit timid in the first couple games. Only needs a double for the cycle. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
