Matt Herges

The Tribe DFA'd Matt Herges. Do we make a move to trade for him? He's got a decent WHIP, owing much to his low walk rate. His HR rate is low too.

I'm not sure who the odd man out is then in the bullpen. Narveson has bad numbers so far, but has been OK in his last two outings, and has a decent K rate. Villanueva has been struggling it seems, but I'm not sure if we can option him. He's going to turn it around eventually.

What do people think?

He's been Cleveland's best reliever this year. And even though he's Cleveland's best, that's still pretty good (3.87 FIP). He's better than Narveson or Smith, I'd take a shot.

"why would someone DFA'd from Cleveland's bullpen be desirable here?"
My thoughts exactly.

Bush will be ready soon - which pushes McClung back to the pen. That will probably DFA Narveson. Villanueva was amazing for a stretch of about 20 innings this year. I think he is just inconsistent - but I wouldn't even consider losing him.

Chris Smith has certainly done enough to stay.

In addition, I would take Swindle or Dillard from AAA in our bullpen before being interested in Herges. Not a horrible idea, but frankly, the bullpen is pretty solid.

He's 39 years old too and saying he's "Cleveland's best" (even that is arguable, the Brewers handled him with ease) is tantamount to being the world's tallest midget. Besides the Brewers aren't short on relievers. It looks as if McClung is headed back there and Smith's done a nice job. They also have several guys at Nashville (Ryan Houston in addition to Dillard) that if the need arises could be added and be decent.
