Gerut for Gwynn, nice trade -- for San Diego!

schuld66

When the Gerut/Gwynn trade went through, I thought it was a head scratcher. Why trade away a left-handed outfielder for a left-handed outfielder? I mean, why not just bring up Gwynn? Since the trade, here are the numbers for each guy:

Gwynn:

Avg = .298, OBP = .376, RBI = 7, HR = 1

Gerut:

Avg = .093, OBP = .171, RBI = 1, HR = 0

Today Gerut hit into an inning-ending double play. This guy has done nothing for the Brewers. Was anyone else confused about this trade? Has anyone heard the reasoning behind it?
