Haren?

Recommended Posts

I could see Arizona seeing what is out there for Haren. In a season where lots of teams are close to contention and lots of teams want pitching, the competition for Haren could bring back quite a haul. I think it would take two or three significant prospects (maybe some filler too, depending on the ceiling of the prospects) to make it happen, it's just a question if any team gets desperate enough.

I would love Haren but the cost would be ridiculously high. I dont want to tear apart our future for any player especially a pitcher even one as good as Haren.
The Brewers should have traded for Haren from Oakland.

Yep, I'd give them an offer of...

1) Hardy

2) Parra

3) Their pick of Salome or Lucroy

4) Their pick of any minor league pitcher in our system

That offer to me would hardly bottom out our system and might even be enough for them to consider the deal.

I would only give Salome not Lucroy. With Money's assessment of Salome's game calling ability I would rather bank on Lucroy. I would not trade Braddock or Peralta if possible.

Our only chance of getting Haren would be to give them the top pitcher in our minor league system. So they could pick whomever, including Braddock or Peralta. Keep in mind, our minor leagues current "top pitcher", whomever that may be in your opinion, is likely not as good as the top pitcher of competing teams that Arizona would insist on to get a deal for Haren done.

Again, I think my proposal hardly shakes up our minor league system and think it would make us a stronger team in the playoffs for sure.

That would be part of the discussion, but not nearly enough. I think it would need to include their choice of any two pitchers, plus Dillard.

I'm not good at constructing trades, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a trade that Arizona would like and that many Brewer fans wouldn't think of as mortgaging the future.

I think the likelihood of trading Hardy at the deadline is pretty low, even though I'd love to see him as part of a package that brings Haren to Milwaukee. Macha seems real hesitant to play a rookie on a regular basis (McGehee had to wait a long time to get hardly any at-bats, Gamel isn't playing alot), and I could see Escobar hitting around .240 or so (which, *cough* if what our veteran SS is hitting).

Its hard to get a read on Macha because this, his first season, is still young; but my instincts say he prefers playing veterans and will only play a rookie on a regular basis if they are hitting lights out like Casey is.

So I sense that when Macha is asked for his 2 cents he's saying keep Hardy through 2009. Of course, Escobar would be a slight improvement defensively (which is saying something) and Haren would greatly improve our rotation, so who knows?

The Brewers trading Braun is close to being as bad as the Cards trading Pujols.

Now, Escobar, Parra, Salome, and a pitcher would be fine with me. I think Hardy, Parra, and Salome would be enough too. Hardy is a proven major leaguer. Escobar still has questions.

Include Hardy instead of Escobar if we do make an offer. It'd be a bold move, but it might be our best chance of ever getting to the promise land. I am not sure it truly happens without a bold move, but it'll be a fun (hopefully more than) few years anyway!

Edited to add if Weirdos is accurate and Hardy/Parra/Salome could get it done, it would be absolutely ludicrous not to make that offer and figure out shortstop for the rest of the year on the go. If you really don't want to use Escobar there til next year, use McGeehe there and let Gamel handle third.

With the way Parra has pitched in the majors this year, it's hard to imagine another team viewing him as anything more than a throw in. It's likely not indicative of his true talent, but we don't really know what other teams think of him at this point.

I believe Arizona when they say it'd take a ridiculous offer to trade away Haren, and The Truth probably wasn't far off. Haren's signed to a ridiculously team-friendly contract through 2012, with a team option for 2013. They also emptied out their farm system to get him in the first place, so they're probably expecting another team to do the same if they're moving him. They traded away two players the A's used to acquire Matt Holliday (Carlos Gonzalez and Greg Smith), a pair of very solid lefties in Brett Anderson and Dana Eveland, and two pretty good hitting prospects in Aaron Cunningham and Chris Carter. If Arizona thinks they can compete in the West next year, there's no reason to trade him.

It would be pretty cool to see him in a Brewers uniform, though. I just fear what it would take to get him...at least he'd be signed long-term.

I don't post here much because most everybody else here is more knowledgeable than I am - just something I heard from, as I said, a friend of a friend, and when I saw the Angels story at Ben Maller, it seemed to me that there might be some credence there. I'll be talking to the first "friend" over the holiday weekend - if I hear anything new, I'll post it in both places.

Hardy is a good player, but how much value would he have seeing that they already have Stephen Drew? The D-Backs have had their fair share of outfield woes this year. I definitely think Hart would be involved in a deal over Hardy, if a deal were ever to transpire.
