Yankees acquire Hinske from Pirates

Former AL Rookie of the Year (and Menasha native) Eric Hinske was acquired by the New York Yankees from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday for a pair of minor leaguers.

Pittsburgh will receive right-hander Casey Erickson and outfielder Eric Fryer for the utilityman. In addition, the Pirates will give the Yankees cash.

I don't get what the pirates are doing. They are giving the yankees cash to cover Hinske's salary, so it's not like it's a salry dump and the guys they are getting back are not prospects. Why not just keep Hinske and hope somebody gets desperate and offers you something valuable for him. More dumb moves by the pirates.
