Pirates and Nationals making a trade (Morgan/Milledge)

Invader3K

Why did this trade happen?

The Nats did it because they need someone who can actually play CF. Morgan can do that and should be able to for a couple of years. If you want to build a young pitching staff, it helps to have a guy in CF who will catch some balls.

The Pirates did it because Morgan isn't going to be on the "next good Pirates team". Lastings was regarded as being a talent that could be a difference maker, the kind of player the Pirates haven't had enough of, and is young enough that he will be controlled for awhile. If he doesn't work out, the Pirates didn't lose much in the effort. If he comes close to reaching the potential that some think he had/has, it's a huge win for them.

Why did this trade happen?

Because it's the Pirates and Nationals. Some organizations get better by player development. Some by free agent acquisitions. Some by spinning their wheels in hope that all the smoke will make it appear they are actually trying to do something.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.
