Villy needs to ditch that curve ball or needs to learn how to locate it better. It's been getting hammered since the Atlanta series.

edit. I just realized this got posted after the Sheffield HR... that was a fastball, I was watching the DVR and referring to the double he hung up in the zone.

I was hoping they could save Trevor for tomorrow night.

Edit: One pitch save...that'll do!

What I was originally going to say on the edit was that the Brewers Radio Network has lately begun playing part of Hells Bells when Trevor comes out. Nice.

hoffman ties an unbreakable mlb record for least pitches thrown for a save. excellent game

I would think at some point some pitcher came into a game and picked a runner off for the 3rd out without throwing a pitch. Don't know how to check if it has ever happened though.

I suppose it's possible for a closer to come in and pick off a runner for the last out of the game before throwing a pitch. Unless there's some fine print in the qualifications for a save that precludes that.

EDIT: Beaten like a redheaded stepchild. Twice.

It looks like a no-pitch save, via pickoff for the final out, is possible. According to the MLB rule book:

Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:

(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and

(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and

(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:

- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or

- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or

- © He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.

So, there is no fine print about actually throwing a pitch.
