2009-06-27 Giants (Zito) at Milwaukee (McClung) : 6:05 PM CT [Brewers win, 7-6]

I'm not crazy with my opinions, just a bit peeved. I may not be right. But seriously, do you guys think this is the best 25 man roster DM could have assembled between Oct of last season and now? Nevermind the fact we don't have Yankee money. With $80M, did Melvin assemble the best 25 man roster for Macha to work with?

The pitcher that was available last offseason that people forget about was Javier Vazquez. We should have definitely tried to trade for him. That guy is a solid 200 inning guy each and every year and he is a good pitcher to boot. He would have been a fantastic number two starter for the Crew and we wouldnt have had to give up Gamel or Escobar to get him. Signing Looper was at best giving us another 4/5 when we really needed a 1/2.

Mighty Casey! Is it reasonable at all to think that Casey can keep up this type of hitting?
He should be playing just about every game until he shows that it is not reasonable.

They may have been sidegrades. But it would have shown effort. Is adding Garland and a Chuck James a sidegrade to Smith and McClung starting?

But again this just isn't reasonable. We already have 5 starters who had shown they are capable of being successful at the major league level going into the season. Do you send down Parra before the season just to sign Garland(4.90 ERA in 2008, 5.04 ERA in 2009)? Would you really be excited starting Chuck James and his 9.10 ERA from last year over Parra to start the year? He might have made marginal sense as a depth in the minors move but he is no sure thing.

There were two options for fixing the rotation going into the season.

1)Trading/Signing a real #1/#2 quality pitcher which we explored and didn't find a deal(Vanquez would have been nice i agree).

2)Trading for a near major league level arm that we could sit in the minors and only bring up if someone gets hurt or struggles (something that never comes cheap).

Signing some marginal guy just doesn't make any sense when you already have 5 guys.

I get that Ennder, but what about trading for Buchholz? You just mentioned Vazquez. There were options. There is nothing wrong with sending Parra down and having that depth. What are we going to do...hurt his feelings? The Bo Sox did it with Buchholz and now they are probably better off for it. Off-season trading could have been done to help this team. Move Dave bush, etc. I just don't think he did the best job he could have. Beating a dead horse, so barring a new point of view, I'll keep insisting on being wrong and be disgruntled about the 2009 roster that forces me to become emotionally invested all day in waiting for the Brewers game only watch Chris Smiths, Braden Loopers, Seth McClungs and Jeff Suppans go to battle for the playoffs http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

well, there you go. Lead-off base hit, although if Billy makes the play, Coffey is still in there. Come on Mitchie the Kid!
