Michael Jackson Dead at Age 50

You know, I'm pretty apathetic about it--it's sad and strange and surprising, but the awesome MJ has been gone a long, long time ([/cliche]) and I feel more like some bizarre William Hung-type sideshow died today, not the amazing performer and worldwide cultural icon of my youth.

I'll be interested to see what happened. So young.

I guess it's a shocker. . .but not really. It's like if you heard that Mike Tyson or John Daly died. Would it really come as a shock?

In any case, he was such a major influence on music and pop culture, and was so extremely talented.

And then to have such a bizarre transformation over the past 15-20 years. . .I'm with the Reverend on this one. The Michael Jackson that I remembered was gone long ago.

RIP, Michael. And thanks for some terrific memories.

I will say that he was a legend in pop music and many of his hits from the late 80s have withstood the test of time.

There are many questions I have surrounding the facts of his death. Perhaps the biggest question on my mind though, is will he be black or white in Heaven?

Assuming he is afforded that honor..........

Kind of amazing that someone like Farrah can pass away and not be the top headline of the day.....
Not even a link on MSN.com right now to that story, but a big headline on MJ.

Joel, I think your third post in this thread is almost quotable.

I guess I will choose to remember him as the guy who captivated audiences in a way no one has come close to since. If he hadn't been as talented and phenomenal as an entertainer, the things he did later in life would have never been news. It's a shame what became of him, but I will always remember his prime and I'm sure everyone who experienced that era will never forget it either.

RIP MJ. A true entertainer.

It really came as no surprise to me. Mostly because anything he did lately was always out of the ordinary.

Did anyone catch wtmj when it broke? That lined up pretty wierd. They were discussing Farrah and McMahon and said something about "who will be the third?" and not 20 minutes later they had the news MJ was in cardiac arrest and then reported his death not too long after. The other part of that is that one of the two guys was crackin jokes about MJ "sham-oh-ing" the doctors in the ambulance. Unexpected from them.

We'll see what the direct cause was. Speculation of various pills, or overworked from training for his tour combined with cancer, which I was unaware of.

So what was your favorite MJ song? I'm going with Smooth Criminal, followed by Billie Jean, and then I Want You Back.

He was awesome and very weird all at once. No doubt my favorite Jackson tunes are "Billie Jean", "Smooth Criminal" and "Rock With You". Never forget when he did halftime at the Super Bowl that one year and didn't move for what seemed like an eternity.

On a Jackson/Brewers related note I think i heard when TH was on the D-List on afternoon on 540 AM that after each Brewers win this season they blast a Michael Jackson CD, not sure which one though.
