Wednesday's Link Report was a bit more "active" than usual, as the start of rookie ball play has energized a few of our more regular posters.

While we don't anticipate very many future Link Reports being quite as enthusiastic http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif, I will let you know that the preliminary posts made by these posters most nights are very helpful to me, giving me some background on the evening's highlights prior to the formal game summary updates and notes you're accustomed to. Normally I don't jump fully on board until after Brewer big league games or even the following early morning.

It's unlikely you'd enjoy a Link Report that was purely "Mass Haas", anyway. I wouldn't.

There is a thread in the issues forum where this topic was brought up. If you feel strongly enough to comment on the topic, please do so there, and not within this Link Report.

But basically, we're going to take it steady as she goes and stay the current course. With three rookie ball seasons underway now, I may even be recruiting some of these same posters (or others) to assist with the more formal game posts. Goodness knows that a near 100% jump in daily game activity this time of year (much of it without formal game summaries) is going to make it near impossible for me to keep up this week's pace much longer.

Thanks, as always, to everyone for reading.

Brevard County is surely feeling the loss of Braddock, Wooten, and Axford. Amaury Rivas allowed two runs over six innings and left with a 5-2 lead, but two innings later, the bullpen has turned that into a 7-5 deficit. Jim Henderson's BC debut did not go well.

"That was...kind of...cool."

Steve Wendt on Derrick McPhearson's foul ball in which he fouled it straight down and then hit it again with his backswing as it bounced back up.

Box score hasn't caught up yet and I don't know what happened because I wasn't listening, but it's 3-0 Helena and they've gone through the order twice already. Trejo has a double and McPhearson has a single, walk, and stolen base. Very encouraging early work from the super-athlete.

EDIT: As I posted, Josh Prince lined an RBI single. Wendt says it's his second hit of the game. I'm not sure if Prince went to second on the play, on which McPhearson was thrown out at third...no he didn't, he just took second on a wild pitch.

Seth Lintz is starting down in Maryvale.
Rough 1st inning for Seth. 3 runs, 2 walks allowed. On the upside, 2 strike outs. Hopefully 1st game of the season jitters for Seth and he can settle down.

Yeah, and two strikeouts for the Brewers in their half of the first, too. Franklin Romero has now struck out in 8/18 PAs.

holy crap, Zach Braddock just hit a grand slam!!!
Uh wow, really? I was just going to post that he'd worked a perfect 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, but yours trumps mine.

1.2 perfect innings now with three strikeouts. Glad he wasn't too tired from his home run trot.

Damon Krestalude allowed two singles in the first inning but has set down 11 in a row now subsequently.
Tuesday night, Nic Bucci had a very good start as well. I wonder if getting a couple games in at Brevard County and Huntsville prior to starting the season in Helena had anything to do with it? Probably not, but you never know. Maybe a confidence boost going into the season?

I was at the T-Rats game. Delaney appeared to be okay, I have video of him being hit in the head by the pitch. I'll get thoughts and video up later, I'm going to take the rest of the night off from the minors and own up some COD for a while.

He walked two but struck out two more in the second without allowing another run. He's done after two; Pedro Lambertus relieved him, so I guess his suspension is indeed over.

Good to see Shawn Zarraga in the lineup for Helena for the first time, particularly because he's catching.

The box score appears to be calling this a SB for now. Nevermind, I just lost track of how many times Prince had been up. He stole a base after walked in the third. Krestalude is still in there in the 6th, much to Steve Wendt's amazement.

EDIT: Six shutout innings for Krestalude. Very impressive. He sounded like he was strong as ever in the 6th and flashed a great changeup.

Though he failed to hit a grand slam or indeed homer at all (what a bum), Wooten also had a successful AA debut, striking out two and allowing a hit to lock down the victory.

Continuing his perfect night and hot start, McPhearson just doubled in Hitaniel Arias, who'd a moment earlier just notched his first safety of the year.
